My Honda feels like a Buick
I just bought a MY06 New Formula Red S2000 that I love. I have always been a Honda fan: my snowblower is a Honda, my lawnmower is a Honda, my High pressure washing machine is Honda powered, I only drive Honda cars, and my favorite website is (should say was) Temple of Vtec. Now I spend hours on s2ki.com
I have owned a Civic Si '93, then a Prelude SH '98 which is now my winter car. After spending my first 1000 miles with the S2k, my fist bad comments about the Prelude came out: This car now feels like a Buick!
The steering is over assisted, and lack of feedback. The suspension is too soft, the car doesn't feel as stable as the s2k while cornering. The ATTS does its job, but it's too less too late in the corner.
Don't get me wrong, the H22A4 is a great engine. The low end torque is good, but I can feel the weight of the car. Vtec is not accessible: it comes too late, way over speed limits, and drinks oil like crazy. S2k''s Vtec kicks in faster (thanks to the gearing), stronger, and all upshifts to near redline brings you right back in the sweet spot
Prelude's long throw shifter feels like it was designed for a bus! But it is still smooth.
Brakes are Ok, but again, they work hard to stop this 3000-pound car and build up heat quickly.
I used to think the Lude was a sport car. It is not anymore. And I am sad to say that to me, this car now feels like a Buick.
The Lude used to be Honda's flagship (superior to the Integra on many points).
But the king is dead, long life to the new king!
I am now proud to be one of yours: A Happy S2k driver

I too own a 99 prelude SH and at the time I thought it was the greatest car and i still love to drive it.
The suspension is soft on the prelude but it wasn't meant to be a all around sports car like the s2000. You have to admit one thing.... for a FWD car it handles pretty damn well completely stock.
It does have very long throws but its manageable. It is a heavy car but it also feels very strong and sturdy.
You can abuse those motors all day and they never once give you a tough time.
The preludes have become so rare these days that I still love to drive it because similar to the S2000 no one knows what the hell it is.

Truthfully, as good as the Prelude was when it first came out, it wasn't meant to be a superb-handling vehicle. From reading the reviews, it seems like that Honda designed the Prelude to be a comfortable 2-door cruiser for young couples and mature young adults. It isn't meant to be the hardcore performer like other Honda counterparts. The Prelude isn't an ideal platform for tuning enthusiasts either.
There are many other better handling cars in the days of the Prelude, such as the Integra, Civic Si, 180sx, Silvia, 240sx, etc, etc...
Though, compared to the different generations of Accords, the Prelude is still the better handling car. The Prelude pulled a whopping 0.81g around a 200ft circle. That was considered amazing ten years ago!!!

the prelude was voted best handling car under 30k, and is still a great handling car. since when have 240s been good handling cars? lol
preludes are a great bang for the buck, it was my car before my s2, and i still own it. its obviously no S, but their is a big price difference as well.

hands down
