Actually, I lost them this weekend. Sucks. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone who got the factory alarm installed still has the remote(s) to lock/unlock the doors. And if you do, would you like to make a quick few bucks to sell them?

And does anyone know where to get a new key, inexpensively? The service guy who did my 1-2 grind quoted me $60 for the key, $60 to program it, $30 for the transmitter and $30 to program that also. Good guy, but $200 seems a little steep, might have to hit up the 'Net for the prices.

And has anyone else had the opportunity to lose their keys, and if so, what did you do? losing keys sucks. Especially when they are on a $100 Prada keychain.

Such is life...

i'm sorry to hear of your predicament. Loosing keys sucks. And the price to replace them is pretty scary as well. Though if i could afford a $100 keychain, i proboably wouldn't have much of a problem with the key price.

Sorry to hear about your key problems. I actually purchased a clifford alarm for my s2k even though the car came with a honda factory alarm. I now have the two honda key transmitters sitting doing nothing in my desk drawer. Probably I should keep one of them just in case but would be willing to let one go. don't know what to charge. Any suggestions?

I would give you mine, but the dealer kept them when I installed the factory security system. Did you really lose BOTH sets plus the valet key? Man, that really does suck.

No, I only lost one key and one transmitter, so that is the price for one of each. I still have one more set, as well as the valet key, but having one set, and only one set, is kind of unnerving, especially considering if I should lose a set again.

I haven't lost keys ever, but for some reason I have a little less faith in myself over that incident.

And the keychain? It was a birthday gift from my girlfriend. Good thing she's cool and understanding though.

I could be wrong here, but I don't think someone else's key will work (unless you're lucky). Generally, there are a number of different codes, and you have to get the correct key (or reprogram the car computer to the key you have). I don't believe the key can be reprogrammed.

This all assumes there is more than one code (if not, that security really sucks).

I would say call to some other local shops. The key should be 60 bucks programmed and 30-40 for the transmitter programmed! Much more than that its highway robbery!

The three keys that come with the car have individual codes that are unique. The RF receiver is programed with these codes. When you lose a key, you sould "wipe" the memory for the receiver and reprogram it with the two keys you already have and the new $60 key. This will render the old key unable to start the car. Naturally it will still open the lock, this is purely mechanical, but it will not start the car.

Ldogdotcom, I bought my car used as it only had one key. One dealer told me $30 for the key and $75 to reprogram. Another dealer sold me the key for about $35 and reprogrammed for free. To program they have to use their portable computer and plug in under the dash. They clear out any keys registered in your car's computer and have to reprogram the car to accept each key. It takes only a few minutes. Don't let them rip you off for an hours labor!
