My S has a ROUGH idle in neutral or when the clutch is disengaged...please help
I was under the impression that in neutral...the car clutch is not engaged, so I should not be having this very rough idel...it almost feels like the car will stall...but doesn't. The car will do a little shake, quiver, and then be fine. The same thing happens when the clutch is disengaged. The car gets the shakes roughly 1/20 times I shift.
The honda tech thinks that my cpu needed to be reprogrammed so that car could "relearn the neutral idle." I just had my 30K service, so I guess it's possible that they forgot to do something to the chip...but why would they need to?
Does anyone know what might be wrong?
Is this honda tech blowing smoke up my _ss?
Thanks for your help

When your car is in neutral, your clutch can be engaged or not engaged, depending on if you have your foot on it. Neutral only means that the tranny is not putting power to its output shaft (and back to the propeller shaft).
This ECU cannot be "reprogrammed" but it can be "reset" by pulling the ECU backup fuse on the underdash fuse panel for about 30 seconds. You could also have something "not quite right" with some of the sensors in your engine bay - like your throttle position sensor, your MAP sensor or your idle control circuitry. Try to reset your ECU and also try to "thump" on the MAP sensor (rap it with your knuckle). Sometimes this has been shown to work. If not, then go to another dealer who might have a service tech who knows what he's doing.
Also, could you have gotten a batch of bad gas? Checked your air filter lately?
