car bogs alot...need help
hey guys, i have the exedy clutch installed in my car for awhile now. maybe its just me but recently ive noticed in first gear the car bogs alot. maybe im not givin it enuff gas? i dont know. before, it would bog alot whenever i was on a hill in 1st gear, but now even if im on flat ground, the car bogs in 1st. does the clutch need to be replaced or something? or maybe i just gotta give it more gas? please help, thanks
If my information serves me correctly, an Exedy clutch grabs quite hard and makes for little slippage. In moving off from a dead stop, a certain slippage is required for a smooth take off. Moving off on an incline, even with the OEM clutch, also requires a certain degree of extra clutch slippage and thus, much more initial rpm than you would be used to. The Exedy clutch merely duplicates on level ground what you experienced on a incline.
I'll stick my neck out a bit here: If you were starting off on an incline of about 6 - 8 degrees (kinda like a boat launch ramp), you should be revving the engine up to around 4000 rpm and slipping the clutch till you got a bit of speed going. What rpm are you starting off with?
Starting off on level ground with your Ex clutch, you need to be very "intent" with your clutch slippage or it will grab suddenly and slow the engine down. You are simply asking your engine to move the weight of the car at a rate that is too much for the available torque at that rpm. Slipping the clutch introduces that weight more gradually.
The above is also assuming that all other engine components are performing normally.
Jack, your situation is most likely not the same. As I tried to indicate in our PMs (and you neglected to mention having an Exedy clutch either), base on what sketchy info you conveyed to me, I think yours is an issue to do with sensors and engine management. When you did the MAP whack, did you also reset the ECU?
(I don't want to get into this too far here as it would hijack the original thread topic.)
