Default My S was raped last night;(

Unfortunatly the topic isn't far off. I was parked at the Towson University's parking garage last night. This morning i came out to find my car with a knifed open top, and all my apexi gear gone, my pioneer 9300 gone, and my laptop in the trunk gone. They didn't even open the door to get out, they dove head first through the top and starting cutting stuff left and right.... what a mess. Luckily they missed the LCD screens, the xbox, the seats (didn't want em), my rims, and all the shiny stuff under the hood. I suppose i got off easy... sheesh....

Sorry to hear that man. I've only been a member for a couple days but this is the 2nd thread I've read about someone getting their soft top cut with a knife. Is this a serious problem for s2ks and other convertibles? Would a car alarm sound off if the soft top was cut?

Sorry to hear. Mine was violated last weekend. The new roof was estimated at $2113 ($250 deductible) in Baton Rouge. Just got an Alpine SEC-150R Alarm installed today. It has the motion detectors and seems to react pretty well when someone gets too close to the top, hopefully it will trigger before any cutting begins.

Yes, its a problem with all convertables. The cops told me that next time i'd be better off just leaving my doors unlocked.......... wow. I'll bet somebody would make alot of money by inventing an alarm system that has microscopic metal wires running in the canvas top.... when they are cut the circuit is broken and ala! ...flames shoot out the side of the car roasting their ass!

Agreed. I leave my car doors unlocked just for that reason. They went through my car and found that I do not keep anything in it. I guess they cut the top just for the hell of it.

A motion sensor with a pager is what I have. That was installed the first week I had the car. I've heard too many slashed convertible stories.

Sorry it happened, but you'll get it all put back together again. Good luck.

Sorry to here that as well man. So the motion detector really works...? Definetly on my to buy list. Over 2k to fix the top eh? How extensive was your damage.... mine was limited to a broken crossbeam and the cut top.... as far as i know. Hopefully there arn't too many more stories like this out there.

they cut me about 2 inches under the back glass window, all the way across. The roof was actually about $1200 for the fabric. However, the estimated time to put it all together is 9.5 hours and it took about that long. So the labor is what kills you, it was almost as much as the top. They order the fabric and take the frame off to install it and put it back on. I got the same quote from the other Honda dealer in town. I keep a car cover over it, however, last saturday night I got lazy and did not put it on. I guess I got lazy and I paid for it. They also got a couple of Miatas and a new VW bug convertible ($3400 w/o labor- ouch!!)

regarding the alarm, the installer came recommended from another S2000 owner. He says it is pretty good for convertibles. I ran my hand over the roof a couple of times and it triggered the warning "chirps" each time, you have about 5 seconds to move away before the alarm triggers. It even works through the car cover.
