Red 8683, allkingz, and wannbuy: YOU WERE EXACTLY RIGHT!! And I quote "well, the S is kind of a tight fit on the lift. We'll have to put it in the bodyshop." Ouch!! And the suspicion on the excess tranny noise is that they possibly left out the "upper seal" which goes below the shift boot area. I'll put in the shop early next week, and they'll provide rental car. Couldn't talk them into throwing in a SC kit though....
Thanks for arming me with info!

are you a lawyer or have knowledgeable information regarding what can be done in this case?

i believe that the dealership would only be responsible for repairing the car to bring it to comparable condition to what it was when they received it. as long as they are doing that (taking it to the shop) they don't owe anything else.

Saw this posted in the local sightings thread. I just had my car in this morning at Jim Coleman Honda for the 45,000 mile maintenance. I had my clutch replaced about 2 months ago through another shop. Ever since, the noise from the shifter area was definitely a lot louder than before. A week or 2 ago i was cleaning the car and found this "rubber" piece under the passenger seat. I brought this to the techs attention and he said that it was the upper shift boot that goes under the leather shift boot. He popped off the console cover and slid that puppy on there, and BAM, no more noise. Def have them look into the upper shift boot. Good luck with all this.

It pretty much looks like this:

http://www.sharkracing.com/in/hyundai/shiftboot.html

Basically the same circular shape with the cascading rubber like that. There is a plastic ring around the bottom of the piece.

You can actually feel if it is there. Through the leather shift boot, feel down the shaft of the shifter. If you feel just the shifter shaft the entire way then its not there, if you feel the rubber then it is. Hope that makes sense.

Hmmm...The only work I've had done at Brown is new front tires and alignment. I may rethink taking the car there for anything else. Good luck!!
