There is so much activity going with Novice 1A,1B, Group 2, etc. that it is hard to actually stick with the same instructor. When it is time to go to the track, they call in the loudspeakers and you line in the track entry area. Instructors start going to that area and you can either find a specific one, or one will stop by your car and step in.

In one instance, since I wanted to ride with Miriam, I told one instructor I was waiting for someone, so he moved on to the next car. I was the last one to go into the track, but it was worth it, since I wanted to ensure the same instructor was tracking my progress.

Thanks restonS2000 and Gregg. I had submitted the form for the class on Oct. 26, I hope they would find a spot on the earlier sessions. I'll keep the suggestions in mind.

My tires are S02's and are pretty new. I did not see any noticeable wear on them afterwards. Just break dust all over my rims, that is all I saw different on my stook.

With regards to how they were on the track, well, since this is my first on a track, I do not have any point of reference to compare them to others. I would assume track tires allow more drifting on corners.

RestonS2000.... Glad you enjoyed your track event! You asked about Car Guys earlier... I ran my first CG event in 1990 and have been a CG instructor since 1994. The founder and owner until 1999 ran a very good program. The new owner is doing a good job too. Students get about 1.5 hrs of track time per day and ample classroom time. A student works with the same instructor for the entire event, unless the student requests a change. The VIR event is July 28/29 on the long course (3.2 mi). If you decide to go, you can request me as your instructor. VIR is incredible!

By the way, once you take to the track, you won't have time to think about the heat!!!

- The Drivers Edge sponsers many events several Tex/OK tracks.
- TWS MSC - Texas Motor Speedway - Motor Sports Club has events all year.
- Motor Sports Ranch has classes and a membership.

Just look around on the web or for posts here.

Motorsport Ranch has a open day on Aug. 23rd. It's only for Japanese/sport compacts though. The S2000 fits into this catergory, which is good. The price is $125. You have to pre-register though...there's only 30 spots available. I've been out to this track once...and it is very nice. Check out www.motorsportranch.com It doesn't list the open date...so call and ask if your interested.

Great post!

If you want to have even more fun I would suggest the four-day course at Bob Bondurant in Phoenix.

Not only will they take a novice like me through all the paces; you get to make mistakes on their cars first!

I couldn't believe how hard racing is on a car. I spent four days "learning" on their cars and feel more confident in my S2K now.

They will let you drive your own car on the last day, unfortunately I didn't have my S2000 at that time or I would have.
