My S2000 is my beater (sort of)
Seems like everyone on this site loves the S2K. I love the car too, and I try to take care of it as best I can.
However, living in the city, it's tougher keep the car pristine, and I've come to the conclusion that I am going to drive this car like it's meant to be driven, and I am going to drive it into the ground.
And when I finally get my first, second, and third dents, I'll realize there's nothing I can do about it, and continue to push that car to redline before shifting.
Quality of time is better than quantity of time.
Does anyone else feel this way? Or am I just crazy?

I agree to an extent. If it's your only car.
Did you see "Blade Runner" ? There is a quote something like this: "The candle that burns twice as brite burns half as long..." That's could be your S2K.
If it's your only car than what are you going to do about it?
But I agree more with those people that can afford a beater so that their S doesn't have to drive in the snow salt and ice, or be parked in in tight parking lots with barely enough room to open the door without touching the car next door.
I think that you can drive the car and get dents but still take care of it by letting it warm up before V-TEC and changing the oil more frequently. The car should last you a while even if it looks rough on the outside.

You are not crazy at all. I am sure that many S2000 owners feel the same way as you, me included. However many of these owners are probably not the type to be a member/guest on this website. Heck...why do you think I went with white. Washing once a month is enough for me.
My ride is a graceful woman in her own respect but I would rather be hanging with the real ladies.

You're definitely not crazy. I just bought my s2k used in chicago where it was covered in salt, etc. When I got it home and washed it, i found quite a few dings and scratches that I hadn't noticed before. But you know what, I bought a used car. Its going to have a little bit of wear and tear. And its my only car as well. And its going to be parked on the street when I go to class and in my very small parking space at my apt.
Don't get my wrong, I LOVE my car, but it is, after all, just my car. I'm going to love it, but I'm also going to drive it.

I was told by my father:
You can keep a car mint or you can drive it.... You can't do both.
It was his way of saying don't let every day car issues ruin the car experience.
I have 61,000 miles and I welcome dings and scratches... part of ownership. When I buy another car and make this the weekend beater then I will take care of every little scratch.

Of course, you live in SF so it's a battle you can't win. If I lived there I'd probably have given up already.
