As Racer was explaining it is the "delta V" or change in velocity that is the major factor. Velocity is speed in a given direction. Therefore changes in direction are a contributing factor.

If you travelling North at 10 km/h hit and object and rebound directly South at 5 km/h. The net effect would be like a 15km/h impact. If you hit an object at 10km/h and both you and the object continued to travel North at 5km/h, the net effect would be like a 5 km/h impact.

I probably didn't explain that exactly techincally correct, but it gives you some idea.

Car saftey is designed around set delta-V criteria which accounts for the majority of road accidents.

Awareness... a driver shouldn't be following that close to another vehicle (much less a truck), at night, in the same lane, at 80 MPH.

Glad you are okay. Freak accidents happen... now you can get an 06, right?

Not to be brash, but would you consider parting with your interrior door pannels and a couple other small odds & ends? PM me if the insurance company you are with would allow such a thing.

vultures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so whassup with the center console? rear bumper?

BTW, check with your insurnace about 'owner retained salvage.' See if the difference in the settlements with owner retained salvage and without. If its only a few grand, keep the car and part it out. you should get more money that way, seeing how many vultures there truly are out here

so does this count as an "at fault" accident and does one's insurance go up as a result??? Even if it isn't "at fault" i have a feeling your insurance is going to go up just cause they had to write a fat check for a practically brand new S2000.
Do you have a ins co that will give you the price you paid for your new vehicle if you crash it within the first year?? I know some ins co's do that....otherwise you're not going to get the amount you paid for the vehicle....probably (hopefully?) get back something around $27K???

typically, insurance companies will settle on a purchase contract on such a new car. He probably wont take any depreciation loss. hopefully...
