Maybe I am being a little to sensitive about this, and I probably am, but how fricken hard is it to respect other people's 'ing property. How hard is to take a split second of your time and be more considerate. When did it become "OK" to damage other people's property? My s2k is only 3.5 months old and already has two marks on it not because of my own carelessness but that of others. It doesn't matter if I leave 6 feet between me and the car next to me somehow the a$$hole is going to find a way to up my car. I'VE ABOUT HAD ENOUGH!

 

Do what I do...

1. Have a 2nd beater car to drive around most of the time
2. Park away from everyone else
3. Get an alarm with a proximity sensor. I have mine set sensitive enough that when a car parks next to me and the person gets out of their car and stands by their door longer than a second or 2 it gives a warning buzz. Keeps those door dinging a-holes aware that anything touching the car will set the alarm off.

 

#2 and #3, absolutely. But number 1?? Come on, you're going to drive a POS and leave a great car in your garage because of the possibility of a scratch? Didn't you buy your car to enjoy it?

 

The real kicker is I am 90% sure I know who the offender is, my downstairs neighbor. He drives an 04 F150 and can't park to save his life. The residual paint is maroon and so is his truck. The height matches that of his door. NO one else has that color around my apt. He managed to actually chip/remove some of my paint so just taking some compound to it isn't going to fix things. It needs paint....touch up or other wise. I am going to confront him about it this afternoon when he gets home. But I just know he is going to deny it and say f** off. It will probably end up costing me $100 for the touch up to be done by a pro and I am going to be without a ride for a day. Not to mention it will NEVER be the same again.

 

Get a garage if you can, that's a no brainer.

If you live at a place without garages available, consider getting a car cover. It won't prevent dings, but it should definitely protect your paint.

I would also scout the place to see where a better place to park would be.

hey i live in a apt and what i do is park at the corners. even if i have to walk. but i learned my lesson from my civic which is dinged cuz my neighbors.

 

I know the feeling there brother. I would do what you can to park away from idiots, and what you can't control don't worry too much.

 

If he is an ass about it and doesn't offer to help pay for the repairs, a little bit of brake fluid would do wonders to equalize the 'paint damage' situation...

But you didn't hear that from me!!!

 

And if it wasn't him?

 

I'm gonna know whether or not it was him when I confront him. Everyone has tells when they lie. Well, almost everyone. The damage to my car isn't what bothers me the most it is the chicken shit nature of the crime. At least leave a note with an apology. One thing is for sure if he decides to stiff me with the bill, I live right above his apartment and can make his life VERY miserable.
