My Test Drive:S2000
Today I had the pleasure of test driving a S2k. The other day I saw a ad in the paper that a Lexus dealer had a '00 Black S2000, so I went down to check it out and maybe get a test drive.
I pull up and and the sales people are trying to see what car I have and I just park and walk out to the lot to look for the s2k. A saleswoman approaches and we start talking about it. She didn't have a clue about the car! I told her it makes 240 HP, she was like "really?? out of a four cylinder??". She was really nice though, she didn't pretend to know anything about it. So we get in, it is so tight in there and I am not big by any means.
Anyways, I drop the top, fire it up and then try to get it in reverse! LOL I didn't know you had to push down on the shift knob to get it in reverse, and of course she didn't! I figured it out and away we went. It only took me about 3 turns before I realized this was the best handling car I have ever driven. It can do things my RSX could only dream of. I never thought I would like the digital instruments but I actually took a liking to it by the end of the drive. The acceleration was very nice. I have always heard people complain of no-torque down low. So I guess I wasn't expecting much but it had plenty to offer. I warned the sales woman that I needed to get it above 6k rpm to really feel it she was like ok. So I floor it when I got some space and took it to about 8500. The power was really impressive, of course most impressive on the high end but it is heads and tails above the RSX through out the power band. I really don't see how anyone in a RSX could claim to beat one of these unless they are spraying. All in all, I hit VTEC about 5-6 times and had a blast. I took a few hard turns on the way back to the dealer and the lady is like "nice cornering!" I couldn't believe the way the car gripped the road. It also had great seats, very comfortable for a sports car. I wanted to buy it right then but they wanted 29k for it, and I can get a new one for MSRP. I would love to own one and join the club soon.

i believe it, norm reeves huntington beach had a my01 for $32k with 20k miles on it. Their justification for the price was that i couldn't get it cheaper anywhere else.(BULL ****) But anyway yea...some dealerships are crazy, this particular one is still marking the s2k up by $4k on the new ones.

At one of our S2000 meets, a group of RSX's (all type S) joined us. I swapped rides with one of them to get the feel of the car. If I wanted a more civilized ride, with room for 4, I would definitely get the RSX. When you get it to V-tec, it sounds just as sweet as the S2k (though a few hundred rpm's lower).
I have to agree that the RSX was nice, but I picked up my S2k over three hours ago and I can't get the grin off my face. Two hot young ladies stopped me at the drive-thru on the way back to work and started talking to me about the car. That never happened in the RSX. I was a little worried at first about trading in after only a year, but now that I've taken the plunge I'm glad I did.
