Default My top is stuck up

Has anyone had this problem? This morning for no reason when I tried to put my top down, it would only go about 3/4 of the way. After putting it up and down a couple of times and pushing and pulling on it, I heard a crunch and then another one. I gave up and had to be at work in a hurry so I put the top up ready to leave, only to find two tears about an inch long on each side of roof about over the driver's and passenger's head.

Does that elaborate linkage get stuck? My 2002 just went out of warrantee four months ago, think I can get a warrantee repair on it?

Any suggestions on how to approach it? If it happens to you, don't fool with the roof, just put it up and take it to a dealer before it rips the roof!

I have heard of people getting this kind of repair Goodwilled by dealers. I have not heard of it happening with a tear in the actual top, but rather in the pastic rear window (which your's doesnt have). I would test the waters at the local Honda dealer. Ask them to submit a Goodwill request to American Honda. It has to be approved by the regional rep, but if its approved, they will fix for free.

I guess the magic word is "Goodwill" request. That is a great insight. Thank you!

The magic word is please. Duh. Seriously though. If you have the Hondacare warranty, it will help you, if you've had no previous claims, (I believe) it will help you.

I can't believe this resulted in tears. C'mon, is it really worth crying over?

As for the top being stuck up....you should remind that top that it's only a Honda. No reason to be all superior and conceited. I hate stuck up tops!

Main Entry: 4tear
Pronunciation: 'tar, 'ter
Function: noun
1 a : damage from being torn; especially : a hole or flaw made by tearing b : the act of tearing

I do get the sarcasm though.

I had a similar incident with my top. I was opening the top in a hurry and forgot to re-latch the latches before lowering the top. It went about 3/4 of the way down, when I heard a crunch....then another crunch. The latches got jamed against the center rib as it was folding and broke the plastic covers on both latches. It ALMOST tore thru the top on both sides. I was still under warrenty, so I went to the dealer and just told them the latches broke. I got them replaced free, no questions asked, with an updated latch (the top now latches tighter than ever) fortunately the top did'nt quite tear thru. I now make very sure that both latches are fully secured before lowering the top.(also did the convertible-top "mod" so I don't need to be in such a hurry raising/lowering at stop lights) Good luck on the repairs, don't know if you experienced the same thing or not, but sounds similar.
