i recently got hit by a big suv with raised suspension and huge tires in the rear damaging my trunk. http://www.sighost.us/members/asianfinesse...ed1.6.10.05.jpg
i went to the honda dealer today to get a price quote for those two damaged parts. it came out to be about 430 for trunk lid (unpainted) and 270 for the brake light total of $757.07. just for the two parts!
and then i went to a body shop to get their price quote. about the same price for the parts, but with the paint job and blending job that requires them to remove the bumper taillights and all these other stuff, came out to a total of about 1800~2000 dollars. just for the trunk repair!
does this make sense? is that normal?? but the body shop hooked me up with a deal 1500 that includes rental car since this is my 2nd time going there.
i'd still have to discuss it with the guy that hit me, but does this make sense to u guys?

Just an FYI. The not painted trunk is about $170 from the dealer not what was quoted. Thats way overpriced. I know I bought 2 of them.
Brake light is like $79. Again way overpriced. I bought one of them
To paint and match the color near perfect would be $200-$500 dollars. Again I did this twice.
So your insurance way overpaid. Thats way too much IMO.
so if the guy that hit me decides to with insurance, i can contact his insurance, have them come and do and estimate on my car, and have them send me a check. and then i can do watever i want with the check? and not have to take it to a bodyshop??
JsAP1,
are you sure u paid THAT little for those parts?? where did u get em? wen? where did u get it painted??

that was the manager in parts. But if I can do it so can any of you. Look at the price they pay on the computer screen then look at what they charge you. Its like a 100% markup.Just the other day I was at the Acura dealer test driving the TL. Anyway I got into one that was marked at $43000. I was like why the heck is this one $43000 and that one $35100? The salesman told me you got a very expensive bodykit on this one. So I looked at the price of the OEM kit. $6900!! Thats 500% markup bottomline. My friend told me the price of the kit or what they pay is almost $1000. So they marked it up $5900 because they can. I would never pay that. Anyway I am rambling on. Bodywork isnt cheap, I agree but those prices seem a bit too high IMO.

I agree you shouldn't be concerned with cost.
What is the reason for getting a carbon fibre trunk?

two words... carbon fiber trunk
By the way $2000.00 seems a little high for trunk repair. You could buy a brand new OEM trunk lid and have it painted for way less than $2k
