Default MY04 Tire Specs

Was reading the MY04 specs again and a question occured if anyone knows.

The MY00 through MY03 have tires that do not follow the usual sizing specs used by everyone else. This has been discussed and described on the forum a number of times. Does anyone know if the new 17" tires on the MY04 models follow the same conventions?

Just wondering,
Drive Safe,
Steve R.

from hondacars.com:

Front: P215/45 R17 87W
Rear: P245/40 R17 91W

is that what you're asking for?

I believe (but am not 100% sure) that the '04 comes with a standard Bridgestone tyre, so would assume that the sizing is back to standard sizing now .... if you note, everyone said that the 225 previously used was in fact the same as a 245 tyre, well now the standard tyres are quoted as 245's .....

I've been wondering the same thing, but I am guessing that we'll find the rears on the '04 are wider than the "regular" 245. Why? My theory is that since they've increased the fronts to 215, if they didn't increase the rears, the car could end up with a smaller front/rear tire width ratio. This would not help efforts to dial out oversteer.

Actually, if the contact patch of the newbie combo is normally sized, IOW, according to the width as measured, the difference would be 30mm, or 1.2-inches.
Currently, the tread width difference between the SO-2's is 1.6 inches so they apparently have decreased the margin of tread width between front and back with the newbie '04
HOWEVER, this would only be true if the newbie tires are constructed the same with regards to tread width. The rear SO-2 is not the same tire as the front SO-2 which results in the wide margin between front and back contact patch.

There's no such thing as a "standard" RE050. They're all made to spec for the manufacturer.
