Default Hankook R-S2 on MY04?

All,

I had a blow out on one of my rear OEMs for an 04, so I was going to replace both rears and wanted a cheap solution.

Hankook R-S2s seem like the tire to get with the delicate balance of dry performance, rain performance, and my lack of cash. And I like the manufacture's free road hazard.

However, I couldn't find much information on Hankook's being used on MY04+.

The closest size is 245/45/17, instead of 245/40/17.
These have a tread width of 8.7 instead of 9 on the RE050s.
The overall diameter is 25.7 instead of 24.6 on the OEMs.

Seems to me, that these are close enough, especially because I like the look of a higher sidewall tire. I'm not tracking the car, but do shake the rear through most corners.

I want to pull the trigger on the Hankooks, but I read they couldn't be used on MY04 because of the taller diameter.

So what are the drawbacks:
- Speedo a little off - its a little off from the factory right?
- higher diameter messes with ABS? don't get this one?
- Warranty issues with Honda?
- Weak sidewalls on RS-2 at higher diameter

If I'm okay with all he drawbacks, the tire will fit and function correctly right (no issues I'm overlooking)?

Also, since tire rack doesn't have these, what is another reputable online tire store beside discount tires that carries the Hankooks?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

They are not close enough. They would throw off the anti lock brakes, gear ration and speedometer. Stay with the 245/40R17 and take a look at a tire like the Fuzion ZRI at 99.00 each.
If I can help let me know.

I'm running 205/50/16 in the front right now (3.6% smaller than OEM) and have no issues with ABS. The 245/45/17 are 4.5% larger than OEM...make your assumption based on the info you have thus far. I doubt anyone would know unless they specifically tried that size. FYI, I was told the 205/50/16 would have issues also, but none what-so-ever. Since yours is the rear tires tho, your speedo will be off a bit. There are other tires available in the right size and similar price...you'll just have to give up a little dry grip for them. I'm running ES100s right now (my winter/fall tires, but winter/fall in socal is just rain)...good (not great) grip, progressive breakaway, and squeal like a banshee, but a good tire for street/daily driving.
