Default MY06+ Not a great modding platform?

New to the forum and looking to soon join the S2K family. I'm currently deciding between picking up an MY05 or MY06 and while doing my research it seems the MY06+ are not very mod friendly compared to the 05+. It seems like there are a ton of problems with getting aftermarket seats working, ABS brakes issues for running big brake kits, overall no force induction option, rollbar compat issues etc.

Is this pretty true for MY06+? I was really looking forward to the AVS systems for the Pacific Northwest rainy, snowy winters.

What are the specific issues making stuff no work on 06+ models? Is everything pretty much made for 05 and under?

Looking for some insight and what you guys recommend. Opinions?

That's definitely not true. Maybe fewer options but that's not "no options".

Drive-by-wire, for one thing...

Roll bars would need to be modifed to fit.

DBW does make ECU tuning different. But in the case of the 06+ you can actually reflash the ECU and get great gains even with a bone stock engine. with a header and exhaust you can see up to 20whp in the midrange and enjoy an increased redline to 8600 rpm and much earlier vtec @ 4200rpm.

FI. Kraftwerks has a 10psi s/c kit which delivers 360whp with an otherwise stock engine and a reflash of the ecu and 650cc injectors. Not bad for a bolt on kit. Vortec, greddy, sos are all following closely behind with FI solutions for the 06. The vortec actually makes better power than its 05 and older kits because it also is able to use superior tuning through a hondata reflash.

however if you plan on running big power 500whp+ turbo it might get pretty clostly for the tuning and fuel management. More so than on an non-dbw s2k.

So the real question is... do you want the convience and reliabilty of a reflash ecu or do you have access to a local tuner who can finely tune every ounce of power out of your car to perfection?

^^ I didn't know that other companies were making forced induction kits for the 06+. Good to know...more options to choose from when the time arrives for forced induction. Was going towards the Kraftwerks high boost kit and did lots of research to arrive at that conclusion.

A tunable ecu is a big plus towards tuning for lots of owners(no need for the Aem Ems unless your building the ultimate drag car or show car).

i think the fact that there are less mods for the 06+ helps me try and get out of this modding craze. and most of solid products the ones that the reliability and name you trust are the parts that came out for the 06+

i have an 07... there are always ways to get around all these problems. ive already had custom seat rails made, had my 6 pt cage modded to fit, getting into FI to finish up the car when it gets out of paint. its not a big deal.... but if i did it all over again I would go with an 05 just to save myself some money and hassle.

how much do the kraftswork cost?
or the ecu reflash?

i wouldn't mind getting just the reflash if it's relatively cheap and easy to do

reflash is $595.

vortech is coming out with a dbw kit that puts ~350whp out on 8psi.

above 300whp you need a clutch.

Excellent write-up. Thanks for the clarification. Looks like DBW is more down my path. Now on to finding a GPW 06.
