Default MY2002 questoins....

I don't own a S2000 yet (I have a 01 E46 M3) but I hope you guys can answer a few questions for my about the 2002 S2000.

Reading some of the posts on this board I see that some of the problems that you guys have are also the same with the E46 M3's. For example, grinding sound in the differential when making tight radius turns, gear shift popping out, gears grinding, and most of all, which BMW has told us M3 owners normal, is the clunking differential/tranny.

Anyhow, my question is, did honda fixed all the problems for the 02 models? Also, the rear window is glass right? Is the top powered or manually operated?

Another odd question for you is, what are the offsets for the stock wheels? and if adding aftermarket wheels (18"), how wide and what offset would be good to run with? Sorry for so many questions, hope you guys can help me out here.

1. Rear window is glass

2. Power top ~6-9 secs down.

3. I have ground second...blame myself not the car

4. growling groaning from diff...yes.

5. Offsets...see the faq...or a search...or someone will post?

6. Widths...a search again.

Wow E46 and S2000...one helluva garage.

I have an '02 but I still have clutch slip. Maybe I don't know how to drive the car or something. I love this car. Anyway, are you going to use the car as a daily or weekend driver? Your E46 M3 is damn fast, I've ridden in one before. I'm a little surprised (and delightful) to see that you want an S2000, already owning the new M3. What makes you want the S2000, why not any other roadster with a higher price tag?

Suzuka2k,

Thanks for replying, so you got a blue S2k huh? My M3 is blue too! I'm not going to get a blue S2k though, possibly silver or white, not sure yet. Have there been any reports of failing differentials? A couple M3 guys have had their diffys failed on them, in one case the diff fell out from the car, very scary. Is the diff problem on the S2k something I should be concerned about?

There is no problem on my Diff. No gear grinding either on my 2002 Sebring Silver! Never had the problem on 2001 S2000 either! And the 2002 seems to handle better than the previous models??? I haven't had slid my rear end yet! (Can't say that for my 2001 S2000! (Totaled it in the rain! Rear end came around too FAST!)

I think most of the griding are from the owners?

Watch the timing of your shifts... with the short throws of the shifter, you could be timing it wrong. If you mess up the synchros, the grinding at high rpm will get worse (ie, occur even at lower rpms).
