Default Natural Aspiration for AP2

So I don't know if you've been pondering what I've been pondering, but let me shoot. Because Americans love torque so much they demanded the AP2 doesn't it make sense to mod the car accordingly.

Sure, the whole concept of torque for the S2000 is silly, but I read a thread earlier about a guy who was very satisfied with his 225WHP that reflected good sustainment across the band with an NA system - J's Intake, Headers, exhaust, and throttle body.

Forced Induction gives great gains to the VTECing high end, but the AP2 has a smaller area (relatively, on the tachometer) to use VTEC, so wouldn't it make sense (if you're an everyday driver of your AP2, like I suppose most of us AP2 owners are) to utilize a well-balanced Naturally Aspirated mod theme?

I'm yet to make any mods as a recent purchaser of my S2000, but have been looking into it with enthusiasm. What compromises a complete N/A system? What will see a raised, more even Horsepower line? From which maker of Mods (J's racing, spoon, etc)?

spoon on the average is going to reflect top end rpm gains. although my spoon n1 exhaust reflected gains in the 5600-7900 range(6rwhp). mugen is suppose to give thick mid-range power. i my self and going NA, but with an AP1. but my extra 1000 rpm produces no power, that been dyno proven. my car's 213rwhp is at 8300 rpm. my rev-limiter is at 9068. the last 700 rpm is just noise. so i guess i should say my extra 700 rpm doesnt produce power.

i agree that is would seem that NA would be a good course for a daily driver with a little smoke to it. but , as with all power, you get used to it and want more.....thus SC! you can spend the same money and get 20rwhp or 110rwhp. its up to how YOU want to tune your car. good luck, and congrats on your new s!

I guess it makes sense to keep the car NA if your not looking for that much of a drastic increase in TQ/HP or else FI is the way to go.

The SC will make boost before VTEC hits.

Also, the last 700-1000 rpm isn't just "noise". By that sense, you'd be shifting at 8300? You still make more power at 9000K in 2nd gear than if you shifted into 3rd at 8300 in 2nd. ALWAYS shift at redline if you want the most power out of your car.

The SC does make more horsepower before vtec. This is a Comptech SC w/aftercooler and Mugen exhaust. Thats all.

yea, torque is just as important as RPM for power production.

also, the last 1000 is hardly just noise. power is still being produced and the integral of HP produced by shifting at redline is higher than shifting before it.

that interesting....i still shift at redline, its against all natural instinct to let off before the yellow hits the red! i just figured that since power dropped off before 9k that is wasn't really making anymore power. you learn something ever day. thanks for setting me straight.

Spend a fortune on NA mods just to get use to them in 1 week or go mad and get a proper turbo kit. A SC is not thr application you are looking for, since it really improves only top end.

random thoughts from random people..... personally 2 liters isn't much to work with so your gonna have to force stuff in (boost) to get power. my car hasn't been that reliable and doens't give me a good feeling at stock levels. NA might see some gains but it will cost you..... i bought my car because it was slow and i luv it.
