Default Need Advice Before Buying a S2000

I would like to see what you all think about this, I am in the market for buying a S2000 and I found my desired combination, sebring silver with all red interior.

It is a 2002 with 42000 miles, the seller wants $19800 and is pretty firm on the price. I had the car checked by a Mechanic and turns out
The rotor needs some turning.
The clutch master and slave cylinder needs to be replaced.
The total bill to fix all this is approx $650.
I found that the front bumper has been painted, that is the only paint work I could find.
I really like the color and I have had a hard time trying to find one. The Blue Book is about 19102 for good to 20102 for Excellent.
I even asked whether the seller wants to split the repair costs with me and that did not go anywhere.
What do you all think any good advice Please. Thanks.

looks like it might be a salvaged car.

i'd think twice about buying from someone that knows their car is messed up and doesnt want to help fix it. i just wouldnt feel comfortable because if thats the case, who knows what else might be wrong that your mechanic didn't catch.

I'd pass. Doesn't sound like a good deal at all. Also, try to find one with lower mileage. A lot of these cars sit around in garages most of the time putting on only five or six thousand miles a year.

Oh well, My thoughts too , I guess I will just sit around and wait for a good one. I have looked at all the colors but once I saw the Silver with red interior I could not go back to another color. Is this a rare color to find, I am only doing local searches radius of 250miles, in a span of 8 months I have come across only 3 cars price range from 20000 to 21999. Thanks for the advice guys.

$650..??

You could do those repairs on your own for less than half that.

You have to get into the "weeds" with the seller. If he's not budging because the car is a gem is one thing. If he's not giving information because it's a lemon is another.

Find out the history and the service records, maintenance etc. Ask why the front bumper was repainted. Was it repainted or replaced? Check carfax.

Bottom line is...... a good deal is what ever your willing to pay for it.

Don't rule it out just yet... just gather more information.

Oh yes I forgot to mention, I did get a carfax report infact an autocheck report and found no problems whatsoever, it is one owner car too and the reason the front bumper was repainted ofcourse the owner claims, is that he was just trying to remove all the road chips.

I also got the service records from their mechanic, the only problem I have is that they did not service the car in a dealership, Service records show just regular maintenance stuff. Thanks.

I've never seen an 04-05 go for that low. Are people trying to ruin the resale value of our cars?
