The Mugen CAI looks great. It also looks like it performs the same function of my home brew mod of ducting in cool air from the top of the grill area to a sealed in filter element. What is the cost of this unit?
I agree that very little max hp or torque gain can come from any CAI, as these maximums happen at high post VTEC revs where even the stock set up is pulling enough air to get some that is cool. But I do think that a well designed CAI can get us more hp and torque in the lower rpm ranges than we would otherwise have, especially in hot weather climates.
I just don't get how some so-called "CAI's" still take air from a hot engine compartment (or behind the hot radiator). I think the Spoon design is one of the better designs for actually getting "cooler" air. The inlet is massive on this thing and is way in front of the radiator.

Of course there are benefits to be had from a well-designed CAI. Like I said, the Mugen unit noticeably improves throttle response, and CF is an excellent insulator so even in traffic, the intake air still remains relatively cool. Mugen spent lots of time to design and test this unit with their wind-tunnel and on their engine dyno, and I trust the Mugen engineers.

I have the PRM and I love the sound of it. Easy install. I did notice however on hot days if you're at a stand still, say a stop sign or stop light, I found there there was a lot more bogging when starting out than when i had the stock intake. However with a little bit of Cool Tape insulating tape around the aluminum pipe leading from the filter to the engine, I've noticed that the extra bogging has been all but completely been removed.
I think it's very creative with the mods you are doing with the 'home brewed', only you guys have done it and have tested it, so let that alone be enough proof for you guys.
Ram Air does work, I've done it on my last car, and its proven. Simple as that.
As far as everyone else, keep them coming, I'm learnings tons, and I think that's the whole point, for us to learn and teach a few things to one another.
