What he said. A used car will always be a used car. If you want a Porsche, get the revised 996. Boxster S isn't worth the premium, IMO.

Nope, this actually is true. I've got a dyno sheet kicking around to prove it. The exhaust on the Box S is extremely restrictive, simply to limit the power output of the 3.2 so as not to compete with the 3.4 Carrera. Free it up, with a proper intake and some ECU changes and you will get 30 hp out of the engine. It'll cost probably $4k, but in Porsche terms, that's pretty reasonable.

Very different car. Actually, if money was no object I'd get the Porsche Carrera GT (much better sounding V10), but I think they've all been spoken for.

TWO CUP HOLDERS in front of the A/C central vents

I found the litronics headlights in $1100 in California, they are the headlamps, bulbs, modules, conectors, etc, from the factory.

Technick package??? Never heard of it. Do you mean "Sport Package" or "Sport Touring Package." Larger Red Brembo brakes with cross drilled rotors are a standard feature on the S. Red seat belts were a stand-alone option. By "tuned suspension" I assume you mean the 030 Sport Suspension (highly recommended BTW). Never heard of "tuned steering" (no such thing?).

Cup holders were added in 2001 as a standard feature. Most people don't use them.

FYI: factory Lits have a self-leveling feature with sensors on the suspension arms. When adding lits afterwards I believe you don't get this feature.

Finally, be careful with some of the CAI systems, especially the oil on the free-flow filters. Several have had problems with the oil fouling the MAF sensor. Be extremely careful when re-oiling the filter. A few have realized HP gains using intake, headers and re-programmed ECU. Stock S exhaust is good and few, if any, have realized any HP gains by replacing it. Most do it just for increased sound. Be aware that installing headers will remove the pre-cats.

Good luck!

Craig

There are a couple on PPBB that have gotten similar gains with intake, ECU reprogram and headers (according to their dyno numbers). TPC makes a superchager for the 2.5 but I don't think anyone makes a reliable system for the 2.7 or 3.2.

SoCal Craig:

It is absolutely right. There is no difference on the steering. The car has a Sport Package and a Sport Chassis option(???).

BTW, I found FabSpeed Motorsport web site where they sell the Garret Integrated AC ECU reprogramming and the show a dyno chart with 14 HP more at the wheels with just the intake and ECU.

I want a convertible. For that reason I did not consider the M3 Coupe, Z06,...

I did consider the M3 convertible (too heavy, not an sport car), Vette convertible (manual top that can't be fold/unfold from the driver seat), 03 Viper( well over sticker makes it a 75K car) and 911 Convertible (80K).

I did not explain the money issue in the right way. What I wanted to say was that the price difference between the S2000 and the Boxster S does not make a key factor to take my decision. I mean, I am not going to keep the S2000 because it is cheaper than a Boxster S. The deal on taking the lease is that it is still running, with 22 more months to go. My boss already paid 17 months on the lease. I will get the car with 0 down, 0 tax, just paying the monthly lease payment, and the retail value in 22 months (36 aprox). If I finance right now, I have to pay about 15K down. I can keep the 15K plus whatever I get for the S2000 and finance my next car in the next months. I will sell the S2000 in the next 30 days.

My next car will be a coupe. My only choice at this time is the NSX Zanardi ( I found #34 and #35 of 50 at 65K). People that claim about Z06 awesome performance is completely right. The Z06 is a fast car on road, track and drag races, but I don't like the interior and the exterior, but it is an excellent car. The C6 will be faster than the Z06, a new NSX is in progress, and the Skyline GTR (a twin turbo Nissan 350Z) is getting to US. Plenty of choices for coupes the next year, but I plan to have a coupe and keep the S.

People that love the M3 Coupe, should know about the car dynamics. In June 2002 Road and Track article (Get a Grip) there were 8 cars in the test: Ferrari 360, Lotus Elise, Mitsu Evo VII, 996 Turbo, Z06, M3 Coupe, Boxster S and MAZDA MP3 . They took these machines to a race track, and compare them in every sense with the exception of straight line performance (0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile, etc.), it was a handling comparisson with emphasis on time from point A to point B. Well the Boxster S killed the M3 in every segment on the test including slalom (Ferrari 69.7mph, Boxster S 69.7mph, M3 67.4mph) and skidpad (Boxster S 0.92, M3 0.89, Mazda MP3 0.90 ). And consider the E46 engine design problem, more than a hundred M3 with blown engines, and it is not related to 2001 models, in road america 3 of them pass the way and 1 of them was a SMGII.

My S2000 is a 2002 Sebring Silver/Red, Clear corners, waiting the clear side markers from Muz the next couple weeks, 4000miles, LoJack (very important for cheaper insurance in NJ). I bought it in April 5, 2002. Reasonable offers will be considered!

Thanks all!
