Instead of a 2001 porsche Boxter S old lease why dont you get the Benz AMG SLK with 349 HP and 4sec O-60 Performance or the M3 COnvertable with SMG or the M roadster with 315hp 4 sec perfromance All these choices are brand new and also they are better perfromers then the boxster S also if you get a porsche Boxster reliability is poor as I talked to a porsche mechanic he also said if you are getting a porsche get the 911 type well good luck!!!!!!!

As I've mentioned before, all these cars are very different cars than either the S2000 or the Boxster - notably the M3 convertible is quite the heavy car. High HP and torque and good shocks and springs can do only so much to counteract physics. On paper, we should all be driving Z06s - 400 HP, 0-60 in four seconds for just a tick over $52K, how can you beat that?

I also get a kick out of people who dismiss a Boxster and say to get a 911 instead - hey, if I had the spare $20K perhaps it would be worth it, but given a well optioned Boxster is around $60K, and the same options on a 911 Carrera would bring it in around $80K...

Yeah the boxster is a nice car but to get a 2001 model from another owner that will cost alot plus may I use the word USED come to mind... Get the newer models that are faster then the boxster S get a 911 or the new SLK 349hp or the Mroadster 315hp or the vette or M3 that last reply was weak remember USED car plus why modify it when you can get all the Horsepower on these other vehicles that have everything in them than modifying them....Remeber USED 2001 Boxster S Used get a new vehicle...I hate when people dont know what they are reading plus remeber money no object so get a real HighEnd Horsepwer Brand New whatever you can spend!!!!!!!!!!!! Not Someone elses USED CAR that HE used 2001 remember its the year 2002 and 2003 is close be smart with the money get something brand new and break it in urself....Used cars are like getting someone elses leftovers

Turbocharge your S2 and spank the daylights out of the Boxster S. The Boxster is an awesome car but it sounds like you're not independently wealthy so why waste the money. You're not getting that much more car. There's no comparison in the gearbox as to which is better... the Honda wins hands down. To me... the tranny is a very important part of the driving experience. Besides, I bet I pass 5 or 6 Boxsters on my way to and from work every day and I might see one S2000 every couple of weeks.

No problems in 19K miles including 4 track days.

Mechanic was probably talking about the 993 and before (air-cooled). 986 and 996 have same basic engine.

Here's a recent editorial from Auto Extremest that you might find interesting.

Porsche. With Boxsters piling up like cord wood at dealers across the country, Porsche has launched a desperation incentive leasing plan in order to help cut dealer inventories. As one veteran import dealer told us, "They made 'em like popcorn, what do they expect? They're dead in the water with the Boxster, and it's their own damn fault." Porsche obviously learned nothing from the 924/944 debacle, when they cheapened the brand in the interest of short-term profits. Fast forward 25 years, and Porsche management is at it again, churning Boxsters out "like popcorn" and saturating the American market to the point that they're seemingly as common as Camrys. And guess what? People don't give them a second look now, because, lo and behold - they've lost their "specialness." American consumers aren't that stupid, apparently.
