Default Need advice on putting weights on s2k

Hi guys, my 's' rear has been stepping out in the front quite a bit lately. I want to know would it help if I placed a couple of sand bags in the trunk to prevent this from happening? Has anyone ever done this? Or should I get a new set of tires? Thanks

50cent,

Is the rear stepping out because of snow? When I used to live in Missouri, I remember people doing this with RWD vehicles like Mustangs. The reasoning was that it applies more weight over the rear wheels so you get more traction and the rear is less liable to swing around.

I'd imagine it works the same way in the S2000, but have no personal experience to back it up. All in all, I think snow tires are going to be a lot better than sand bags, but this is an uneducated opinion.

I do seem to recall that some folks get snow tires and still use sand bags when the weather gets really bad.

S2-Raw, if 50cent is in Michigan, then my guess is that he's asking because of the snow. We don't get snow in most parts of California so we don't hear about this type of stuff. It's fairly common practice in parts of the country that have real winters, although I've never heard of it being done in a S2000. Upgraded suspension isn't going to help with snow, although snow tires naturally will.

My fear with the S2000 is that it's lighter, twitchier, and more load-sensitive than most other cars, hence I wonder if sand bags would throw off the balance too much.

Gottcha, just one of the many reasons I'll never leave Cali.

Hehe, I feel the same way, our weather is to die for. The irony is that I now drive hours and hours every weekend just to find snow to ski/board on. Gotta love how that works out.

Sorry for the intrusion 50cent, I'll leave your thread alone now.

50cent:
Don't put sand bags in your car. Do put on snow tyres. Do realise rear wheel drive cars will slip sideways unlike front wheel drive cars.

Put on some Blizzak LM-22's and add some weight in the trunk on the bad snowy days. I do both and have bo problems now in the snow.
