Need Advice On Security For My "S"
What do you guys recommend for added security on my S? I was thinking of a Lojac/alarm combo or maybe a Viper alarm system. Your suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance. -Ken
There is a lot of good information in the electronics section. Your question has been asked many times by quite a few people, and there are some good responses.
Personally I like the Hornet system that I got from William Laurent. It works seamlessly with the original key fob, and I got a system with a beeper. The battery backup I got with the horn prevents someone from just snipping wires to disable the system. And William's installation instructions specifically for the S2000 are pretty good.

I went with a Compustar 2WFM-WS unit. It is a 2-way pager type of system. Has a little picture of a car on the LCD remote, and lets you know whats going on with your car. the FM unit I have can get about 1 kilometre of range (I've proven this). Down there in the US you guys can go for the 2WSS-WS which is the spread spectrum version (further range).
Its a good unit.. the FM version cost me about $220 US.
I suggest adding some type of motion sensor for the interior of your car... its the only way for an alarm to work very well, when you have a ragtop. This way if someone slashes your top, and tries to get inside, the alarm should set off if setup properly...

My only response would be to spend as little as possible on an actual alarm unless it provides useful things like a fuel pump kill.
The "normal" type of alarm that just flashes the lights and sounds a siren is next to useless as most people completely ignore them these days. I've seen Police and private security guards drive right past someone standing at a vehicle with the alarm going off without slowing down - there are just too many that go off for stupid reasons to pay any attention in case it really is someone stealing or vandalizing a vehicle...
