Default Need another key... ?!!!

I bought my S2000 used, with only one key and one remote. I bought another remote and successfully programmed it... no problem.

I brought my key and got a copy made at the local hardware store. The key works fine... i.e. it goes into the ignition just like the original, and turns everything on, like the dash, radio, etc.

However, the car will NOT start when I try to do so with the duplicate key. So, I'm assuming there's something special about the original that doesn't get carried over when a copy is made, or there's some ECU issue.

Someone want to clue me in?

You need a chipped key. The S2000 has an immobilizer system. Go to your dealer to get a new key. It'll only cost you $120.

Did you get an owners manual with the used car too?

The is a chip in the key that also needs to be programed into the car. I don't think that the hardware store key even has the chip. You can only buy them from the dealer and they can then program key into the system. You might want to shop around for what this will cost, as some dealers are very proud (reads charges lots $$) of this service.

Just a note about the key: We can Copy an original key Cut/Programmed for $30 + Shipping but we must have the original key to copy the code off of.

Good grief... don't pay that much for a remote.
You can find them on eBay dirt cheap. Mine was $16.00 plus shipping.
