Default NEED DIFFERENTIAL ADVICE ASAP

Hey guys,

Today i took the initiative to get all my fluids changed in my AP1. I went to a generic garage shop to have the mechanic there change my differential oil. I bought 75w-90 castrol gear oil for my differential and i bought only 1 bottle which was a 946ml container. When the mechanic put the differential oil in, alot of the oil dripped out of the differential through the fill hole. He went ahead and put the fill bolt on stating that it was full. Since 946ml is equivalent to 1 quart which is the required amount to fill the differential and since some oil leaked out, that automatically means that i have less than a quart in the differential. I asked him if it was full and he kept saying yes and he proved it to me by showing me that it's leaking out the fill plug after removing the fill plug for the second time. Do you think i should bring the car to a Honda dealership and have them drain and refill it with the correct amount or do you guys think i am safe. I'm really paranoid and don't want to blow my differential. Any comments are kindly appreciated

You fill it and then let it off of the jack and the excess runs out. It doesn't hold a quart.

Top it off with some Dr. Pepper.

It could be worse, you could have taken it to the Honda dealer and have them put in CRV diff fluid that ruined the diffs of many a board member.

If you don't think too good, don't think too much.

fill to spill FTW.

Also remember there is residual if you don't let the diff drip for an hour...I assume the mechanic didn't wait that long. Conclusion, congrats on your anal retentiveness, but you have nothing to worry about and your car will thank you later ha ha

Read your owner's manual. It clearly states, with diagrams, that you fill it to the edge of the fill hole, which is therefore until it spills. It also says it takes 0.76 quarts, not 1 quart.

If you want to return to that mechanic again, you'll probably owe him a friendly apology for being on his case about it.

No harm, no foul, right?
