Need help with aftermarket spoiler installation
I referred to the company that I'm purchasing the spoiler from as Handa . I should have called it by it's true name, H and A Accessories. It will be an OEM spoiler so I should have no problems the latch.
WhataRide, you will NOT regret leaving the extra strength springs off. Just keep them on reserve although I doubt you will ever have need for them. The OEM rear spoiler is one of the lightest ones out there. My Neon spoiler is quite heavy and I have no problems with the operation of my trunk lid. Go ahead, knock yourself out and give yourself a treat. The OEM spoiler really adds a nice touch to the car.
FYI: I purchased the OEM spoiler from H and A and I had an issue where the brackets on the spoiler didn't line up exactly right with the tunk holes (the ones that are pre-marked by indentations in the trunk lid). I had to take the bracket off the spoiler and move it over a little bit (1/4 inch). It wasn't a big deal but I couldnt' understand how the OEM spoiler didn't line up with the factory-marked holes! [[ Not H and A fault...just thought it was odd ]]
Anyway, it wasn't bad. I followed the instructions to the letter. I used the smaller bits and then made the holes larger with the bigger bits. This avoided any badly cut holes. I put touchup paint on the holes afterwards.
Two other issues to consider:
(1) The paint may not match 100 %. My front spoiler doesn't look the same shade as the rest of the car, but this is always a potential problem. Not much you can do about it.
(2) Its difficult to clean that little crevice between the trunk spoiler and the trunk lid. You will see a small crevice that is nicely sealed by the rubber on the spoiler but I find it hard to get that area really clean. I have to kinda wedge a thin cloth in there to get it clean
Oh and don't worry about the springs. I didn't change mine and the trunk pops open enough to unlatch just fine. I will save the heavy springs for down the road if my curent springs get weak. The tool is only $4.00 anyway
Get the spoiler(s) ! They look great!
