Need HELP! Question about 4 or 5 point harness
the s2000's roll hoops, which are attached directly to the main frame, is plenty safe for a rollover; it will not collapse. the issue is if the driver's head, with or without a helmet, breaches the safe zone... or extends past the roll hoops.
there are several options available:
you could install aftermarket roll hoops (not a full cage), but you would likely make the s2000 a hideous monster (i.e. the 550 Barchetta and 360 Spider).
a full roll cage is available but would be ever-hideous if you ever put the top down. a hardtop would fix this problem, but then, it would almost defeat the purpose of a roll cage, as the SCCA and most club racing organizations require either a roll cage or a hardtop, not both.
you could also wear turtlenecks...
and i agree with the others when they say racing harnesses should NOT be installed if there is no roll cage or taller roll hoops installed.
hmmm... i just remember the question of this thread, and it has nothing to do with roll cages. back to the topic, if the strap is digging into your neck, a shoulder pad will not help, as it is a shoulder pad, not neck pad (hence the name). try adjusting your seats; are you sitting too close? too far?
as for manufacturers...
http://www.kingmotorsports.com - distributor of Mugen parts (full cage, 5-point harnesses)
http://www.spoonsports.co.jp - exclusive Honda tuner, though quite pricey; they make a full cage as well. i don't know of any U.S. distributors off-hand, but check the website to see if there's anything you like. HINT: surf the Japanese website, as the English site doesn't have a "Products" section.

I'm adding a rollbar to my car because of track events. Cars I have seen with them, I think look very cool. Must be I'm biased because most of the Z3s I see have roll bars because most of the people I hang with are driving school enthusiasts.
I completely agree with the general direction here, DO NOT install a harness unless you have a rollbar added or a cage, just like others have said.
The debate over belts or a harness in the event of a roll over with a car equipped with a rollbar or cage gets MUCH more complex when you factor in that many tracks have gravel/sand traps on the outside of the corners. If a car rolls over in that, the rollbar and the roll cage will do no good because the thin bars will just sink into the sand. Now you can talk about body compression, an ugly thought for sure!!!

Hardtops are for looks and aerodynamics, not safety.
