I'm with triple-h. The 9k rpm engine is what drew me to the car originally. I've never even thought of replacing mine with an AP2. There's a lot to be said for color, too. I'd pick red over silver regardless of year, but that's just my personal taste.
Ultimately, my advice is to spend whatever you need to get the car you'll be happy with. You'll save money in the long run by keeping it longer.
