It seems like the word is getting around at work that I got the S2k. I only told a few of my close friends since they are car buffs as well. The general consensus is like "what the heck is this kid doing with a S2K?" I don't know they are all surprise. If you really think about it, it is a step up from my 00' Lude but come on it isn't like I bought something stupidly expensive like a Porsche or something.

Did any of you guys receive this when you got your S2?

From our many discussions, it seems to me that you are not exactly a "kid". I was only a couple of years older than you when I got my first "semi exotic" car. However, people have always known me to be a car nut so it didn't come as a surprise to anyone. What you are experiencing is beyond your control. It is those around you who "perceive" something as being unusual. They have either over exagerated the "exoticness" of the S2000 or they have under estimated your standing in life. My advice: Screw 'em! Well, maybe not quite that harsh since you do have to live and work with them. Eventually, they will get used to the whole idea and adapt to the next level of how they see you. If not, then it's their problem and in time, you'll just learn to ignore this aspect of their relationship with you. In terms of material things, you have advanced to the next level. Give them time to catch up.

thanks Dave, I understand what you are saying. They all know I am a car nut so they'll just have to get used to it. They funny thing is they all want rides when I do have the S out and about. I am not the "look at my mug" type of guy so I'll have to get use to those reactions with the S.

I traded in my barely 2 year old 98 Accord V6 coupe for the S2K at 22 years of age...I got a few strange comments, but all I was doing was so I didn't care.

yeah, when some of my coworkers got wind of my new S, they were like "And how much is the company paying YOU?". whatevers. i figure negativity is just jealousy rearing it's ugly head. whenever ppl do something out of the ordinary, they'll get attacked. when i got a used MR2 as my first car in high school (cost $5,500), all my friends with new integras and accords were calling me "spoiled". can we say hypocrisy?

congrats on your car, BTW.

Hell, I'm 29 and I feel awkward about owning an S. Maybe you guys were different but I was always one of the "have-nots" in high school and, seemingly, in life. Last week I said screw it and bought the car. WTF, I've got a good job so why shouldn't I treat myself to something nice?? I still haven't told anyone at work yet though.

Uh, I drive a slushmobile right now so ANY car above what I drive is a step up... but I'm hoping that before I turn 25, I will have an S2000 in my garage (crossing fingers)

Any donations to the "Buy Simon a S2000" fund would be greatly appreciated!

If you save till 25, you'll have a S2K for sure. I made a mistake of getting a SS Lude, should have bought the Type R, if I did, I wouldn't have the S2 today.
