I appreciate that as well. Never noticed a difference when I was installing the HKS. I'll have to get under there and check it out.

Greg Woo,

Yes, we are talking about the same thing. My bumper is melted on the Black surface almost at the very back of the bumper mold itself right around the arch of the exhaust outlet... I would very much appreciate the start of a offline discussion forum to assist Neuspeed in correcting this problem.

Expect a email from me in a matter of minutes.

To everyone else, just to be clear on this has anyone experienced melting in visable area of the car that does not involve getting on your hands and knees to see?????

Thanks,

Jeff

Hey jlipack,

Talk to 1Y2KS2K. When we looked at his car at the meet on Sat., the damage that was caused was very visible. You just had to look down and you could see the side of the black bumper part was melted pretty badly.

I just checked my muffler hangers after Shaner's posting. Mine are correct according to his suggestion on how the firmer hanger should be on the "muffler exit side".

I seem to still notice a bit more vibration in the Neuspeed system then I remember from the stock one, but maybe it's just me.

I'm checking everything now that my bumper is melted...

Anybody around here with a Borla exhaust have the same problem?

By the way, for those interested, Summit Racing sells the Borla system (p/n: 14877) for $562.99 and Borla now has a picture of the cat-back on their site (http://www.borla.com/automotive/?cartID=20...9207.104.60.200). It's difficult to see just how large the tips are but I'm guessing they're the same diameter as the Neuspeed but without the billet inserts. I'd imagine the Borla and Neuspeed sound similar too.

The tips on the borla system look smaller then the Neuspeed. There is not much clearance between the bumper and the tips on the Neuspeed.

I'm going to wait to hear from Neuspeed, but I'm beginning to think that I will try grinding part of the underside of the bumper away. Hopefully, this will create a bit more clearance room...

I hate to have to mess with the bumper, but it's already melted anyway.

Well, I have had the HKs for almost a year now, my tip are super close ( if not touching) to the bumper since HKS exhaust tips are somewhat inclined up, and my bumper is brand new. I gess that the problem here is that the tips on the neuspeed get way to hot.

I exchanged a couple of e-mails with Greg Woo today asking if they had a solution to the problem. Here's what he said:

"3 owners plus our prototype car are exhibiting this problem. Hardly an epidemic, but definitely worth an engineering revision. Our current system utilizes a 4 inch tip. Basically the problem is the tip is too big for the opening. Aggressive driving causes the exhaust to shift just enough that the tip contacts the valence and burns it. I've decided to make a batch of 3-1/2 inch tips for these guys with a different, twin-tube design that will keep the tip cooler. The reduced diameter and the twin tube design should eliminate the contact problems they have."

I'm deeply concerned about the valence issue. I purchased the exhaust a few months ago and will not install it for at least 3 more months as I'm going to London for work.

I fully expect Nuespeed to resolve this issue or replace my bumper, including labor, should the melting occur.

I would also be happy to replace my current exhaust with a suitable revised edition.

I will NOT install the exhaust until I feel that Nuespeed has resolved this issue. From the number of people experiencing this issue, it is more than a random problem.
