Neuspeed HQ, exhaust, and new adjustable struts
1Y2KS2K, S2WOOOW, and myself went up to Neuspeed HQ today to check out their facility. Saw an S2K being test for Koni adjustable struts: the S2K was all stock except for that, and it sat just a tad shorter than before. I'd get one when it comes out.
Anyway, I had a chance to drive 1Y2KS2K's car with the Neuspeed exhaust on for about 2 miles, and here's what I felt:
- rich, deep, and throaty bass off the line. Kinda gives you and those around you a big hint of what's to come.
- past 6K, the VTEC scream takes over, and as always, the orgasmic vibration lasts for as long as VTEC's kickin'
- none of that annoying rice drone when you're cruising. The top was down and the cruise speed was 50mph, the sound seemed almost stock - the roar is still waiting there, but it's a caged animal. The caged animal picks the lock and roars when you step on the gas.
- since the only mod on that car was the exhaust, I can appreciably say that the exhaust is definitely helping somewhere in the low end: the "resistance" you feel around 2500-5500K RPM is lessened. Though the increase is not as dramatic as Prolene's car was (Prolene's got TB Bore and FPR in addition to the HKS exhaust), it's definitely a better drive than my car - which BTW is still bone stock (except for my custom air filter) engine wise.
I personally think that the Neuspeed exhaust is worth every penny, probably more. The S2K is a different animal with this exhaust. Compared with HKS, I would say that the Neuspeed has more of an appreciable smooth bass tone - not much more, but a bit more.
I've seen this teenage boy with the S2K around my area. He's got some kind of aftermarket mufflers, don't know what it is (looks like the Amuse thing, but 2 of them). Now, that muffler is LOUD. If I was to compare, I would say that Neuspeed and HKS' exhaust has an authoratative and commanding tone where as that particular one sounded very "bitchy" - it's almost as if it's wailing in high frequency.
