New 05 or used 04
3000 miles for $3000 bucks? sounds liek a good deal to me. I mean seriously, how much could an old man possibly have done to the honda in 3000 miles? I'd go with the 04 and buy some sick mods with the extra 3k you banked!
FYI... 28.5k for the '04 is too much. I got my '04 1 month back with 3k for $26.3k. If you really want to save money, I'd wait for a good deal on used '04 since there are no differences between 04 and 05. Again the caveat is that it is a "used" vehicle. The amount of care on the car from previous owner definitely makes a huge difference.
Okay, I'm probably going to get nailed for this little..."trick"
But you have the old man work out a deal with you so that you report the selling price as lower than you actually paid so you save some on taxes. I've done this for buyers of cars I've sold privately.

You haven't seen what I'm driving now.
Your wait depends upon the allocation of the dealership. If you are only working with one dealer, then you could wait a loooooooooong time and still not get the best deal. Put out an email to every dealership within a reasonable distance and have them give you a current inventory and their "best deal"...then find the car you want and let that dealer know you have a better deal elsewhere, but prefer the one they have in stock....but be prepared to walk and let them know it up front. If it is an 04', an invoice deal should be easy to get.
If they don't have any in stock, have them check their incoming allocation and see what the wait looks like. If they have one coming...offer them no more than $500 over invoice and let them know you would be willing to take it off their hands before winter.......assuming you are in a part of the country where winter is an issue.
If none of this works, buy a cheap flight to Kansas City. I can put you in touch with a dealer that is 5min from the airport that will give you a very fair deal. My suggestion is that if you have any reservations about buying used, don't do it...I am very anal about my car and have heard the "old guy drove it story" a few too many times.
One last point...my state recently passed a new law that charges sales tax for used vehicles based upon the market value of the car, not the disclosed price on the bill of sale...you may want ot check you laws, but even if you bought a used one from a private owner and they put $1 on the bill of sale, you still get charged a taxable amount for the value of the car....check it out.

The best deal I got on a new 05 is 30,200, plus tax and tags ($1,300), but I have to order it. The 04 has 3k miles from an old man who broke his hip and can no longer get in the car, and is 28,000 plus tax and tags, and maybe the extended warranty. Since both are the car I want (white with tan & black), its just a matter or $$$, and maybe the extended warranty.
There's no way tax and tags on $30,200 is $1,300. Are you getting a tax break on a trade-in?
i have this theory that there are good cars, regardless of age or miles and there are bad cars which you can have regardless of warranty and never enjoy...drive the 2004, if it seems like everything is there and you can check what problems the former owner reported (dealer can help with service history?) then you have a known quantity in that used car...and the savings is ok, i would have the dealer sell you the car (if you want it) with an exteneded warranty just in case it is a lemon and you are stuck with it...the 2005 can be a lemon too, there is little difference between the 2004 and 2005 except the cost (stats are the same).
So, my advice, is check out the used car, negociate something more in the deal, as no one is standing in line to get this car, and if you like what you see and drive go get it...i am assuming your current car will not be a good choice for use for the next few months...
if you can wait the price of the new car can come down between now and then...and there are probably some new 2005s out there for sale to compete....now. These cars can loose in excess of 25% of their value when traded into the dealer in the first year, then sold to you with a handsome profit...figure the dealer has a 25% margin in his ASKING price for the used car and alot less with a new vehicle.

Hey everyone, thanks for the helpful info on the cars. I checked out the 2004 S2000, and ended up driving it home, since it was in perfect condition and exactly what I wanted. $28.600 out the door and the 7yr, 100k mi basic CPO warranty! Its basically a new car with the extended warranty, and it was a fun ride home!
