New Civic Type R Spanks S2000...
"Driven" UK Tv program was testing the new Civic R, so it raced it against the S2000 using pro drivers.....
They got some stats wrong for the S2K, but it still got whipped by a civic on a damp track!

s2k+wet track=dead.
if the track was dry that civic would probally not have a chance. they said the civic had 200 hp and the S had 20 more, that would give it 220. doesnt the S have 240 hp, or is it dif in the uk?

Big debate in UK forum,
The driver in the Civic is current British Touring Car Champion, other bloke was a no-mark. Even in the dry he could have caught this guy!
Brilliant video showing how to opposite lock a FWD motor!

Debate in the UK forum is here
The S2000 still has 240 bhp in the UK, it also doesn't have traction control as the presenter claimed ("It's wet so I'm going to swith the traction control off" - presses the stereo controls...Also begs the question why he would turn off traction control in the wet.)
I'm afraid Driven, the programme this appeared on has been given the nickname of Drivel due to the apalling quality and subjectivity of it's car reviews.
And Tuney - the CTR didn't 'spank' the S2000, the S2000 led for most of the race, given Plato's professional exploits (in his Touring Car he's well known for running any driver who threatens him points-wise into the Armco...) and the fact that Mowlem in the S2000 said on air he'd had to back off to let Plato through I don't think the S2000 disgraced itself on the track at all, despite it being wet.

Doesn't surprise me. How much does the Civic weigh? If it is less than 2,350 it's power/weight ratio is right there with the S2k. Damp track is an advantage for the FWD Civic too.
On a dry track, I'll pick the S2k. With equal driving talent, it should be the easy winner, especially over 10 laps or more.

I believe the US variant Civic SI (which is 'made' in the UK) weighs 2744 lbs. I'd assume that the UK Civic Type R weighs somewhere near that amount. Other than the UK version getting the K20C (200 HP) motor and 6 speed tranny, I really don't what other differences there are. E.g., is the UK CTR much lighter by virtue of being stripped down, etc.

. In the end of the day this was an sales pitch by Honda to sell more Type-R Civic's, they really don't need to push sales of the S2K as most buyers want a specialist sports car not just a souped up shopping car.
