new to forum, soon to be new to S2000, maybe
hi fellas!
I am new here so let me introduce myself. my name is Haru (its not an anonymous alias) and I am an engineer in York, PA. I drive a 2001 BMW 330i, a 1997 Miata, a 1989 SHO, and ride a 2000 Kawasaki ZX-12R.
I love my Miata more than words can say, more than any other car I've driven. Yeah, its slow, yeah, its a chick car, yeah, its a weenie, but I love it. It has a certain something that nobody has been able to capture, not even Honda with the S2000.
That said, I must also say that the S2000 is an incredible car and I want it so badly that I go to sleep thinking about it and wake up thinking about it. It's race car deameanor, its ferocious engine, its superb cockpit, its rifle bolt shifter have all enraptured me.
I want to get a new 2001 Yellow (local dealer getting one in june that he will sell for MSRP). Some people are advising that I wait for the 2002 model. I don't even know what I can swing as far as $ go. But until it has become irrevocably certain that there is no S2000 in my future, you'll see me here.
have fun. good to be here.

Sounds like you caught the fever...welcome (almost) to the club!
And if there is nothing from preventing you from doing it, I would get it ASAP so you can enjoy the rest of Spring, Summer and Fall in your soon-to-be yellow racecar.
Let us know when you take the plunge!

I have some of the same concerns regarding the 2002. Yes, the summer would be nice to see topless, though I don't want to get one right before some upgrades by Honda. One of the things I have noticed is that there are quite a few cars on the market with <5K miles. Are there really that many Schizos out there who don't know what car to buy? Once they have one, does it fail to live up to their expectations? I have seen some caution statements about the size (No storage) and ride quality (Harsh)and am not sure how much of a PITA factor they are. Additionally, there seems to be lots-o-disparity in the press as to how quick this car is. I plan on getting the SC- is the GB still on?- so should have plenty of power. To make it worth it there needs to be <13.3 Qtrs. I have yet to see, through a quick search, reproduceable times in the Qtr. I have seen the 5.1 GTech 0-60 though. The thing is that this will be my one chance at a sports car before having kids. It will seriously need to rock the house to make it worth it. I have waited 32yrs for this. One more thought I had the other night, I actually think about the car as I fall asleep, can you get one of those motorcycle trailers on the back? Would it be worth the hassle? I really need to be able to go away with the wife on long weekends-she packs lots of hair shit- to gain her acceptance. Notice the use of acceptance v approval! Thanks for your help!
I am going to take an extended test drive tommorow at the dealer on a used 2000 mile old S2000. THen I will decide whether I love the S2000 enough to give up the Miata AND my 6 month old motorcycle.
I am not worried about waiting for the 2002 model because of the summer because I have my Miata for top down driving and my motorcycle to enjoy during the summer.
Lets see how it goes.

Initially, I had some of the same concerns -- harsh ride, no storage, does it live up to the hype, etc. I took one of a test drive -- mild compared to what I do in the car today!
-- and walked out of the dealer 52 mins later. I have never been so stoked -- I have had quite a few cars and bikes -- nothing has made me feel like this car does. It is NOT a 911TT or a Ferrari or a Z06 -- it is a bada$$ 4-cyl sportscar that is something proud to be an owner of. The car (coupled with your right foot) can be kind of a brat -- which is why I call mine "Rip Snot" -- don't ask -- old school punk talk from the local MX track...
Anyway... It does ride a bit harsh -- there is much worse out there -- it does require your attention -- but it is so much fun, words cannot possibly describe it. I personally think there is more than adequate storage space -- my girl has a differing opinion...
I plan on doing quite a few mods myself -- suspension, wheels, etc. I think you will be more than happy with the stock car if you decide to get one. Enjoy and welcome to the club should you decide to purchase.

Obviously, your opinon is yours--- So do whatever you feel like. The only reason I am even postig to this thread is b/c the car just seems to get better the longer you have it/ experience it.
_______________
I loved the s2000 before I bought it, simply b/c of what it stood for, who made it, and what performance numbers it had etc. etc.
I loved my car the day I picked it up...(I drove to the dealership the night I recieved 'the call', slept in my car in front of the service garage where my car was quietly waiting for me and waited for; someone, anyone, my salesman, a manager, a damn mechanic, a janitor, anyone... to show up to let me in so I could go touch MY CAR!!!) I loved my car the day I bought it.
To say, "I love my car even better now" (15,000 miles later) is an understatment. A big understatment.
This car gets better every day!
