Default New guy, give me the basics

So, I am mainly a biker, own a Ducati 748S and a Ducati 1098S.

Last night I went to a Japanese car meet with a friend, and there sat a gorgeous S2000 in red... God my poor heart!

Anyway, I have always loved these girls, always, since they were first release, the style of them is simply sublime!

So, at the end of this year, I will be a new proud owner of one.

My questions are... Where to start? What should I be looking for in models between 2002-2004 (price range fits this age range).

What are the differences between the standard S2000 to the S2000 GT?

I want a hard top, and will also be applying a fair few upgrades over the period of ownership, so if I were to get a non altered/upgraded girl, what are the first and foremost important tasks that will offer the best improvement?

Also, what are the views on body kits, I am not normally one for altering a car of beauty, but in most cases I have seen, body kits on this car is like slapping on a very fine dress onto a already very fine girl

Thanks for your time

s2000 GT? I myself have never heard of such thing. They only made two "versions" of the S. The AP1 and the AP2. To the rest of your questions about body kits and what to look for I would suggest using the search function. There are tons of posts and stickies about the questions you have.

Best of luck with your search!

Bugger, that is rather embarassing! There are a ton on autotrader.co.uk stating Honda S2000 2.0l GT...

Guess it's just a gimmick.

What are the different models then and whats the difference between them?

Thanks

Actually in the European market they did make some GTs, not sure exactly how they differ. Theres the AP1 s2000s which go from 2000-2003 and the AP2 which goes from 2004-2008. In the US the AP2 has a 2.2l engine but in Europe they kept the 2.0L. In the AP2 they made some changes to the suspension and they changed the look a little. Theres also a CR model in the later years. That ones comes with a hardtop, different lip, wing, ect.

There are threads on this including recent "What should I look for?" threads.

There's no "should". It's subjective. If you don't know then track it first. You'll figure out what you need/want (if anything). Tracking will likely offer the best improvement and it's always overlooked for some reason.

Depends on the kit. Depends on how the kit was done. You can make broad, sweeping generalizations but they're not very useful. Again, you should read/search. They're discussed quite a bit and if you spend some time here you'll find plenty of hideous examples.

Remember that not everyone lives in the US. the OP's profile clearly indicates that the OP is in the UK where there certainly is a GT. Search/Google if you want details. "I've never heard of" != "does not exist".

Thanks for the replies, wasn't really looking for any detailed answers, but as stated, it seems there is a ton of info around this forum. So I will be around here for a while!

Thanks again

If I am in the U.K, my perfect dreams S2K will be the AP2 with F20C . So if I am in your shoe I will go with the 2004-up because it an AP2 with the F20C . Here is the link if you needed to know which year and models of S2K.

Read the FAQ section of the various forums. A lot of helpful information. I suggest staying stock until you're really familiar with the car. In my opinion the AP2 looks better, but I prefer the characteristics of the F20C motor (only sold in the AP1 in the US).

I didn't say this to flame him. I myself have never heard of an s2000 GT which could rightfully justify that there are unknown versions in other countries.

As with body kits its based on personally preference. Widebody kits done professionally look amazing. Putting a janky bumper on in your garage with wood screws and leaving it unpainted is pretty much a disaster. It depends on the kit and how its installed. Suspension and wheels also play a critical role in the overall aestetics as well.
