Default New here went some questions.

Sup everyone got my first 07 s2000 a couple of days again and loving it already I just got one questions since I'm only going to driving it 6,000 miles a year the most should I only do the 2 oil changes it needs or should I do one ever 3 months. I'll maybe drive it 2 times a month of that helps any.

I'm just staring at your title and wondering if I should ask you questions... Or where the questions went...

6000 miles driven twice a month is 24 drives of 250 miles each. Two oil changes? What for?

I average under 2000 miles a year. I change it when I hit the mileage on the sticker.

A sticker? Says change the oil in less than 2000 miles?

None of these posts make any sense. I change my oil every 3000-3500 miles, if the car is simply sitting I would change the oil every 6 months. A lot of people say that an oil change with 3000 miles is overkill. But whenever I drain it, the oil looks pretty black and dirty. I don't use synthetic oil.

Black doesn't mean dirty, another huge misconception about oil...

Doesn't the darker it gets means that there is more contaminants in the oil; therefore, means that the oil is dirtier?

No, it means it's been heat cycled enough to do what carbon does: turn black/dark. Granted, it won't be as clean as fresh oil, I was just clarifying that dark oil doesn't mean dirty

As noted detergent motor oil (the only I've seen) will look "dirty" -- it's normal.

Really you can change as often as you want but excessively frequent oil changes just waste oil (and money). Modern lubricants in modern engines can go at least 5000 miles between changes and probably more like 7500 miles. Run forced induction and there's more stress and (perhaps) a more frequent change is needed. The oil companies would love for us to change more often. 2000 mile changes are 1930s vintage stuff. One oil company may still use the two-finger logo on their motor oil to indicate it's good for 2000 miles. Same logo since before WW2.

No benefit -- or damage other than waste -- with more frequent changes.

Pretty sure the S2000 computer notifies when an oil change is needed. Supposed to be smart and not just a mile counter.

You may want to consider synthetic engine oil. I've seen manufactures recommend more frequent oil changes with dino-oil than synthetic. Costs more but in a S2000 is good for at least 5000 miles -- dino is too. Don't forget to change the filter.

An oil analysis is what large fleets use to determine when to change the oil. Military does it with vehicles and aircraft. These cost more than a simple oil change for our cars but in large vehicles using large amounts of lubricant the cost savings in not dumping oil is significant. Oil analysis also alerts to engine failure. We'd occasionally get a message to pull a tank engine and send for rebuild after oil analysis. (Having a spare on hand helps!) Fixed before failure.
