Default New owner, first question

Hello everybody,

I'm a new S2000 owner; picking up my red 2002 last week. Like everybody here, loving the ride.

While I am still breaking in the motor, I am wondering if I am reading the owners manual correctly. Is the first oil change really at 7,500 miles? I am used to dropping the oil after 600 miles. I understand from reading eariler posts here that Honda has special juju additives in the factory oil. But what about purging oil that contains all the little metal bits that wear off as an engine is breaking in?

Can y'all enlighten me as to the wisdom of not changing the oil until 7,500 mile vis a vis additives and removing the metal bits?

(by the way, my handle comes from the fact that I ride a Ducati Monster - "il mostro")

Follow what your manual says. Depending on your driving habits, you may have to change it at 3750. Make sure you check your oil level frequently since the car likes to eat oil a lot during it's first few thousand miles. Also, do a search on this, since it is one of the more popular topics.

Thanks for the replys guys - had gotten the FAQs and searches. What I was looking for was a discussion of the rationale of NOT changing out the oil and thereby keeping all those fabled metal bits floating around in the oil system, wearing on parts, etc.

I am assumming that Honda feels the special juju additives outweigh any metal bits, but I was wondering if y'all had anymore enlightenment.

Thanks!

My problem is that I am going to store my S2000 for the winter and I won't get past 3000 miles before I store it and they recommend I change the oil before I store it.

I have been taking all those I can. But I would need to go on a 1600 mile roundtrip journey. It is under discussion, but not likely. Just have to do what I can!
