Default New Owner Has A Few Questions...

I purchased my s2k last October(2002 blk/blk) and came upon this web site about a week ago and have really found this to be a great source for info on my car,so here are my two questions...Can anybody tell me what the material is that covers the dash board?I want to put a protectant on it but really can't tell what it is and until I find out I affraid to touch it....next question...I've noticed a number people use next to their name at the bottom of a post.Is this a production number of the vehicle?and if so where can it be found?I've looked inside the doors but all I come up with is the month/year she was built.

Thanks Everyone

Welcome to the board. If you enjoy the company of other S2000 owners you should check into joining a club in your area, as well.

As for your questions: (1) I can't say for sure but I believe the dash is simply vinyl. The convertible top is also vinyl, by the way. So, I just use a good vinyl protectant...Vinylex by Lexol is my choice. (2) The serial number of your car is the last 6 digits of the VIN. For example, mine is 008272 so the serial number is...8272.

Hope this helps.

Have fun and keep in between the yellow lines.

I like the low lustre Armor All for the dash.

Pledge! No build up...nice lemon smell that is NOT too much...and anti-static - lasts and looks factory with no inordinate shine! Oh - and it is so much less expensive than armor all or other specific protectants...I have had professional detailers see the results and switch to it in their cars even though their customers still prefer that hideous shine!

Pledge! Pledge! Pledge!

P.S...Not for the convertible top - just the dash and plastic/vinyl interior parts...I also use it on my Rick's console cover with a layer of leather protectant!

I've read a few postings about cleaning the top,and it seems a few people use the Armorall cleaner. In past cars I've owned I've noticed using Armorall on the dash starts a film on the inside of the winshield(sure hope you guys know what I'm talking about).I've never used the low luster, perhaps that may not film up the window as bad?

Steve
Where did you hear about Pledge?I'm having a bit of a visual problem spraying a product made for polishing wood on my dash.

I've only used Zymol Vinyl on the dash. The stuff is expensive but it has a great smell and does not leave a glossy finish. Instead, the dash is left with a deep black look without feeling or looking very slippery.

It does do a great job and is also superb for treating the soft vinyl door inserts, keeps mine a lovely deep red colour...
