Default new owner question

Hey, I'm a new owner. I just picked up my '01 silverstone and was wondering if anyone else has this going on? Depending on road condition, the shifter shakes pretty badly. Is this normal? I did a search and was unable to find any useful info. TIA

If you're talking about the movement that the shifter makes when the car rolls over a bump in the road, this is normal. The engine/transmission is basically rubber mounted so it will rock and roll independent of the rest of the car to a certain extent. I would imagine that the S2000 shows this a little more than most manual transmission cars because the shifter is mounted directly to the tail of the transmission. In many cars, especially front wheel drivers, the shifter is connected to the tranny by cables so any movement of the drive train isn't transmitted directly to the shift lever.

As long as you're not feeling or hearing any hard impact sounds when the shifter moves, I wouldn't worry about it.

Drive Safe,
Steve R.

OK, thanks. It probably move up to maybe like a 1/2" in either direction on really bad bumps.
