Default New owner questions?

Hello guys,
As mentioned in my previous post, I just got a 2002 S2000 with about 31K miles on it and I am finding some things which I am not familiar with. I am extremely OCD and been searching on how to resolve some of the things that I find and whether or not those could be a problem down the road (should I take care of it now or later??... The Dilemma...

1. Exhaust header Bolts are rusty. Does anyone know how it can happen? Is it something to worry about?

2. VTEC Solenoid rust on cap. There are several people that had similar problems and they recommended to put a new cover or take a send paper polish it out. If you would send paper the cap, would you do it on the engine or take it off? Also, what grid of sand paper you would use?

3. Would anyone know why would some remove the Windshield wiper tank (Previously leaking)???? My doesn't have it and dealer just left me with the pump and bolts for the passenger side front inner fender. I didn't realize it when I purchased the car. .. It will cost me about $50 and couple of hours (assuming there is nothing wrong that I can't see now), but just wondering.

4. There was a dog smell after rain and I suspected that there might be a leak in drainage, so I have inspected the trunk and I didn't find any water in the boot.

Also I have looked at the carpets, still no evident problem, which is good, but I started looking at convertible top drainage, I was looking for days to see where is the drainage goes out too is and finally realized it where it is.... YES. . The passenger side seems to be draining fine but the Driver side doesn't.. I have looked at the following video that shows someone cleaning drain with the hanger, but is there any other way to do it?
Here is driver side:

Here is the passenger side, which is working very well

Thank you all in advance

rusty header cover bolts no worries but you could buy new ones from Honda if you're OCD.

If i cared to paint the vtec, i'd just do it on the car- just mask everything off.

good luck

Yeah, taking stuff off the engine just increases chance for contamination or introducing a leak. The last thing you want is your ocd efforts toward cosmetic issues to turn into real issues.

The header heat shield bolts will rust like that from the heat. New ones will just soon do the same. Use stainless steel bolts if it really bothers you. Probably will have to buy them online. Hardware stores typically only carry SAE threaded stainless fasteners.

Go check out the thread for new owners. That should keep you busy for a while, lots of good stuff in there.

The car was driven in road salt...so the rusty bolts and VTEC cover are normal.

The heatshield bolts are not structural...so replacing them with stainless steel ones with stainless washers won't hurt. I believe they are M8x1.25 thread.

A VTEC solenoid cover is another option rather than paint.

As far as your washer tank....one can only speculate. Perhaps the PO had something else mounted there. Or they left plain water in it and it froze and cracked the tank. Or...?

All,
Thanks for all of the responses, I really appreciate it.

1. I will just replace them with Stainless Steel ones
2. I will just polish it when I will chance
3. I will look in the inner fender to see if there is anything else i missing and just order the parts that I need.
4. I will look further on how to clean the Soft top Drain, but does anyone have any other opinions?

Thanks,

SEbo

I wonder how crazy you'll go when you actually start driving the car and hearing all the road noise and squeaks haha.

If you want to keep your car mint your going to have to get used to making shit happen. We re happy to help but most things become obvious with enough time working on cars. Feed your obsession and become a proficient tinkerer. Be safe, measure twice, just do it, make things happen, mess things up then do it right the second time.
