Default new owners: initial checks

hey guys.. just doing the quick check of my S at 450miles..

oil::
-level @ highest mark on dipstick
-color of oil is very clear-slight honey-like color
-smells a bit stinky to be normal oil

mileage::
-filled up twice so far (after initial dealer fill).
-27.7mpg; 28.1 mpg for each fill

gear grinds::
-none yet (knock on wood)

gripes::
-the tunnel seems to get warm near my gas foot.. even though the vent is on, my foot still feels too warm.. almost sweating...yuck
-the car makes a very deep throaty unpleasant noise if i shift to the higher gears too early and it's pulling at 1500rpm or so...
-not used to the transmission being so close to the passenger compartment.. i hear a bit more than i'm accustomed to
-stock deck/speakers aren't too impressive at all
-reverse is REALLY weak.. weaker than my B16A.. i don't know if it's just the gear ratios or something, but i stalled in reverse 3 times already

likes::
-the comments and looks that i get seem endless.. it's very nice and reassuring to hear so many good things
-the dip in the trunk is great for groceries! fits right in there pretty snug
-6th gear.. 60mph and on... wow.. i don't even gun it yet.. only 50%-75% throttle and it picks up like it's in a lower gear.. can't wait till i break it in..
-HIDs are beautiful.. they light up the road so much better than Mercedes, Lexus, and Audi HIDs.. the beam extends so much further and the overall intensity is just much cleaner. I'm very happy with the projector design of these lights.

too many good things to say to list em all.. overall i'm very happy with my purchase, there are just several minor things that i would have thought of as a designer that should have been done..

Secret- In my experience, NO Honda product makes pleasant noises when asked to pull from below 2000 RPM, think that's called "lugging the engine"

secret, the solution to both the "throaty unpleasant noise" and the weak reverse is the same; you must REV this cars engine higher to keep it from bogging. The S2000 is made to rev high and will give you the performance you expect only if it is driven that way.

Secret,

Picky, picky, picky.....

Seriously, I noticed your MPG numbers being the same as mine (our cars are equally new). What's up with that? Shouldn't we be in the low 20's rather than nearly 30? Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

Also, other threads talk about oil loss. Not a friggin' drop as far as I can tell from the dipstick and 600 miles... That's my experience with Honda anyway... But is it only when you start VTEC'ing that oil starts burning? That doesn't exactly give me a warm-fuzzy, if you know what I mean.

Totally thumbs up in agreement with you about the lights, the gearing, and the comments from the general public. WOW! (see my thread "I LOVE THIS CAR")

Best wishes from New England!

27-28 mgg!!! I hope this is all highway driving. Otherwise, you are really pussyfooting around with the gas pedal. This car is meant to be driven hard.

APT, I've got the B-16 and it seems to be the most sought-after engine around here. I can't part with the Si, though. First love and all that.

fperra,

don't forget, some of us are still breaking in our cars!!

Seriously, what are you seeing for MPG, and how often do you use the VTEC range?

Which car had the H22A, Secret? Fair enough that your experience differs from mine, but I'm curious...
