Vary your RPM!! Don't be afraid to take it up to 5,000 RPM during break-in. Always drive the car above 2000 RPM, avoid vigorous accelerating below 2500. I find the car gets fine gas mileage and is very "pleasant" to drive by keeping it between 3 and 4 grand. This means 2nd gear for the 20's, 3rd gear for the 30's and so on the whole way through the gears. Some would say buzzy, I say this is how the car should be driven everyday. Please take a look at dyno charts of the car (torque) and you'll see what I mean

If the beam extends further than the other cars listed, I would hate to try driving those in the dark! That is one thing I hate about the car. You cannot see a thing past that line unless you have the high beams on.
I lost no oil until I got past the 600-mile break-in and did my first VTECs. I'm at 1,900 miles now and have added 3/4 of a quart so far.
I, too, get a raspy engine in the low RPM ranges. In fact, it's only gotten worse the more I have driven the car at high RPMs (not sure why it's happened). I'm told the engine gets stronger through the first 5,000 miles, but I do plan on having the dealer check it out soon.
The stereo sucks--it's the worst thing about the S. But there are plenty of aftermarket options to improve it.
And I have no idea how you're getting such great mileage. I get around 22-23 mpg, mix of highway and street driving.
Glad you like the S so fare. It's a fabulous car. Just wait till your first VTEC....
Holy Cow! 27-28? I just finished breaking in my car (I'm at 700 miles now) and I was getting 24-25. Never went past 5000 when I was babying it, but I tried to vary the RPM's.
I love the HID's too, but since it's so sharp, it's sometimes hard to see past the beam. And I traded places with my friend's Passat so I could check out the HID's, and it felt like I was being high-beamed every time he went over a bump in my car. Oh well, at least I don't have to see it when I drive!
During break in I was getting 26.5 MPG in a mix of driving... and on the highway I know I get 30. But I never bother checking it anymore because I don't want anything to spoil my fun driving it (you know, like my conscience or something).
