I highly doubt it will achieve Supra status if discontinued. The Supra is popular because if its incredible modability (as with any turbo) in addition to the movies. So unless some significant progress is made mod wise or some more lame movies are made starring the S I don't see this happening. I also agree that there are way too many S2000's to become a collector car unless we are talking 40 years down the road. In which case hopefully we aren't running on gas then.

I agree some redesigns would be interesting, and isn't it the norm for Honda to come out with a fresh design after small upgrades (ie MY04 tweaks)?
Yeah I was talking more along the lines of that the price would hold steady similar to how Supras still sell for nearly what they sold for brand new.

If the S2000 follows Honda's "normal" pattern, the car got a refresh in '04 which would mean '06 would see a total re-design. But doesn't that mean we should have saw a concept car at the auto shows? Maybe not, but then we should certainly see a production model announced at one of the '05 Auto shows.

Of course, if the S2000 follows the NSX, then we wont get a new S2000 for another 10 years

Maybe they will do what they did with the S500 and S600 and discontinue it for 40 years.... In the year 2046 an S7000 will come out

Oh, I see your point with relative to the initial price comparison. Though, it can't be ignored that the Supras price is due to the movies, so I would expect the S2000 to be somewhat below that.

Your other point is basically what I was getting at in this thread. If it is to be continued/redesigned why haven't we seen anything?

Complete agreement on the NSX fact!

I'm not sure why so many of you want the car to be discontinued, it sounds almost as if you got the car and you want to be special so you don't want anyone else to have the chance to get one. The S2000 isn't rare enough at this point to make it collectible though... With 5 years of production, it might hold its value and be more like the Supra if its discontinued, but thats probably about as far as it'd go in the short term.

During a business trip to Japan in the end of 03, I had occasion to speak to a designer with Honda at a getogether.

Now this fellow maybe on the low end of the decision food chain with Honda but, he said that they were looking to introduce a "SE" edition with TURBO, Ground Effects etc in 06 along with the usual 06 model.

I guess we wait to see if it gets better... or just fades away

Hmmm. The new S2000. I really have no clue what the next one might be or under what name it will be sold.

However, I would anticipate the next iteration will be better than what we have today and I am excited about that.

As for the value of today's S2000, I really doubt it will be anything unusual. Because it's Honda, it will hold better than average and that's about all that I can see happening, realistically.

S2000s actually hold their value much better than most cars in its class. I'd definately be happy if after mine is paid off I could sell it for $15-20K...it only took me a year to get right side up on my loan...I know of few cars that can claim this.
