Default New S2000- Is it supposed to smell bad?

Just got a new S2000 today (7 miles on the odo after test drive). After driving for a while, it began to smell like burning rubber or something bad. It was pretty strong. Is this normal? Maybe some kind of protective factory coating on something that's supposed to get burned off?

Mine had 8 on it when I picked it up....no burning smell.
Sure you didn't forget to lift off of the clutch he first few times you took off?

Also, are you breaking it in properly? You shouldnt have gone over 4,000 rpms yet.

No, it's not new car smell. It's foul. It is really strong outside of the car after we park it. So it's from under the hood or under the car.

Take it back to your dealer..........

It shouldn't smell.......unless you did a 7K clutch drop.

i believe i had the same smell you're having right now. it would only happen after i had reversed the car. i didn't let it bother me too much (other than trying not to park in spaces i would have to reverse out of). could it be the same smell?

Maybe its a burnt clutch? I am guessing that if you do know how to drive a manual and is not the cause of the smell, maybe someone took your car(could be salesman or customers) for a joyride and tried to do some launches. Defintiely take it back to or better yet show it to a friend to get a second opinion on what that smell is.

You may have also run over a plastic bag in the road and it stuck to the cat/exhaust? Look on the underside of the car if you can... I know when I ran over part of a deer carcass I had the smell of roasting meat for weeks! It attracted neighborhood dogs.

I had the clutch/brake smell when I first took the car home and a few consecutive days thereafter. I think it's normal, but take it to the dealer if you're paranoid and have them look it over. I have 15k miles now and the clutch still grabs as strong!
