New to the S2k Fam
Hey, whats up you guys. I'm a little new to this S2000 fam but I recently just bought a 2001 Silverstone S2000. It has 159,000 miles which is pretty high. I bought the car off of an older man, he was Original owner and he said he kept it maintained well. (plugs, oil, etc.) It is going to be my daily but the car runs great. I was wondering what you guys would recommend i should do to it first? It is completely stock so i want to slowly start modding it because i dont want it to look Completely stock. All i have done so far is buy some red Honda emblems and a front lip. I want to change the radio because honestly it sucks ass haha. I like the car a lot, the ride is amazing the only thing i can complain about it is the plastic rear window. I cant see anything when i am inside, it creases, and its all dirty. Do you guys know an estimate on how much that costs? Im just asking for some info or some advice you might think would be helpful, like how to keep it running good, or shining nicely, or to clean the soft top, interior, or idk anything.
Thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot!
that rear window can be replaced by itself. 254$ from Honda. it zips in on the top but mounts to the rain gutter. try meguiars plast-x on it. it may clean it enough that you can see out of it. or convert to a glass top. 159k is nothing man. I have 232k on my 01. oh your insurance may pay for that window if you have full coverage. welcome to the family of S owners.
welcome, it's a fun car and many things you can do to tinker around with. I would change the retainers in favor of the AP2, by time you need to do a valve adjustment and changing the valve cover grommet. very inexpensive with a piece of mine as the older AP1 are known to stress if you if you over-rev and can break which can cause some problems.
I have an 01' AP1 as well, the previous owner took meticulous care of the car, he replaced the retainers when one day, the car had low compression found out to be the retainers, the compression is now 230-240 across the board.
Enjoy it, it's a honda the car is straight forward and can be driven many many thousand miles with normal maintenance keep-up.

Modifications on this care by members are plentiful. However, with the exception of radio HU you mentioned, I would wait a bit before doing some of the larger non-cosmetic mods. I think you would benefit from getting to know, and enjoy, the car for at least a year before going to town and spending your hard earned $. The car on its own is pretty darn good. Tweak the rear window, rebadge if you want but hold of on the air intakes, supercharging, goofy wheels and rolling the fenders.
Have fun.

I'm happy that you chose an S and I welcome you. My stock radio is gone and I actually wish I could have one. lol. Anyway, the first thing I would do is give it a good detailing job. Buy some cleaner and protectant for the top. Clean the top first then wash the car. Take a clay bar to it then wax it. Clean the engine bay (I just wipe it off with a rag). Clean the inside by using leather cleaner on the seats and other areas where there's leather. Use protectant on the dash and every where else you can find. Pull the seats forward and clean behind the seats. Put cleaner or protectant on the weather stripping as well. Also clean the rims and tires when you're wasing the car and don't forget about the tire shine. I think tire shine is what really makes the car pop.
You ordered the front lip so that's good. Maybe order the spoiler as well? Get a cold air intake and change the oil to the brand that you prefer. I use Amsoil 10-30 synthetic. Change the spark plugs, check the tire pressure to make sure it's good to go, and how does the tread on the tires look? If you feel the tires need to be replaced or just want to get some nice ones then go for it. Make sure you use 93 octane or 91 (I know some states don't have 93 like in AZ and other western states, which was a downer when I first moved out there). Is the stock shift knob in there? If so, you can replace that with a nice one that makes shifting faster. How are the floor mats? Maybe you can replace them? How about the cabin filter? Is it dirty? Replace it. Get one on Amazon. Lower the vehicle if you want, but that would be last on my list, but that's just me. Is your car going to be kept outside? Maybe a nice car cover? Go to empire car covers online. They're always having 40% off as I get emails from them all the time. I have a cover from them and it works great. Buy some Redline fuel system cleaner as well. Make sure when you change the oil that you get the OEM filter for the S2K. Buy a Florida State Seminoles hat because if you're going to be driving a winning car, you have to wear a winning hat and to really make sure you and the car look good all around.

There is plenty of stuff u could spend money on before modding it. Brake bleed. Retainers. Coolant. Eng, tranny, diif oil change. Clutch fluid. Grease shifter. Tighten subframe, rear axle, driveaxle bolts. Grease all rubber. Clean and silicone boots and grommets. Replace cabin and engine air cleaner. Wash it. Clay it. Paint correction. Wax it. Drive it. Love it!
