New TSB on updated clutch!
CoralDoc - Yep, Coral Springs Honda.
Thay have been good about it though. When I went in with the noise yesterday, they already knew what I was talking about.
Sean(Service Manager) even showed me the TSB.
He said that a shipment of bad clutches went out as the replacement units that are actually worse than the ones they were replacing.
I'm sure when you go in they will have it all straightened out.
Pepe - I agree. The new clutch does grip better, but the noise is unbearable. I will get the TSB number and a copy of it as soon as I can.

FlyingPig - This is the best I can describe it:
When driving at 70mph, for example, dropping it into fourth, I can definitely hear it when I leave it in gear and simply take my foot off the gas pedal. This allows the gear to actually slow the car down, and at this point, it makes a rattling/griding noise.
It usually occurs when you take you foot off the gas pedal, but occasionally upon acceleration from a dead stop.
It can be a brief noise, going away once you drop to a certain RPM, or as soon as you put the clutch pedal in.
The way the mechanic tested it was that he drove it into high RPM's, and then took his foot off the gas pedal very quickly. To make sure the noise was in fact from the clutch disk, he pressed the clutch pedal in, which immediately quited the grinding.

Wesmaster - My stock one was making the noise, and they replaced it.
Mine was so beat up that they actually had to replace the flywheel as well.
At first, they told me that they would not cover a wear issue, but after a few phone calls to Honda Corporate, their story changed and it was all covered.
Basically, my argument was that there is no way that a non-raced(other than an occasional street light encounter) car with 12,000 miles should need a new clutch if the original was not defective.
They bought it and I got a new one.
Fight it and you will win.

Ldogdotcom - Rental? Hell no!
Make the dealer give you a car. Its Honda's screw up. They installed a defective part so they are giving me a loaner.
So you had your clutch replaced with the grind fix, and now its noisy?

Actually, the dealer gave me a loaner. Loaner, rental, they are all treated the same. Yes, the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, 1-2 gears and synchros were all done. It hooks up like a MFer now, but the metallic deceleration makes me a little nervous.
I had the chance to drive Dennis' (Smokin'- the metal screen guy) S2000, and he got the same fix at the same dealer, and there was a night and day difference. His was whisper quiet. Mine? Noisy.
I'd hate to have another Civic for another week, though.
