Default New or used?

6'3", 205lbs, Duc 916/K1200RS rider transitioning to 4-wheeled motorcycle; S2K fits like a glove - perfect car for me. New S2K is not too much more $ and still affordable, but if a good deal on a used one is available...
Is there a mileage limit above which I should not consider a used S2K? Are there problem areas specific to the S2K to check for? What is service interval for the car? Should I avoid year 2000 models because it was first model year? Any advice on those questions and other things to look for on a used S2K would be very welcome.
Thanks,
David

Glass Rear Window = Big Difference, go with an 02 if you have the money

I agree, if you can afford it, get the 02. My biggest concern with a used car, is that you have no idea how that car was treated and maintained by it's previous owner. With a new car, you'll know that you were it's only owner and that your car was properly driven during it's break-in period. I've never had a roadster before, but I imagine having a glass rear window with a defroster would also be a big help. Damn, enough S2000 talk, i'm going out for a cruise now................

I was thinking the same thing as you. After reading/seeing how some people beat their cars, I would never buy a used sports car. Just go to the Street Encounters Forum and read a couple posts and you will easily realize what kind of used S2000 you could end up with. I bought mine new, broke it in properly, and treat it well. I am very happy with my decision. GO NEW!!

Not all used are treated like the ones on the Street Encounters forum. I've had mine since May of last year and it only has 5600 miles on it. I enjoy driving it and occaisionally take it into VTEC territory, but never red lined. I think there are some owners here that treat theirs like it is a classic roadster and not a dragster.

I disagree with this statement, I think you need to drive the S2k the way it was meant to be driven, and that does not constitute occasionally taking it into VTEC. If I had an S2k, I would VTEC anytime I have the oppurtunity. (After 600 miles of course) Some people may overwork their car, but it is their car, and there is nothing like the exhillaration of VTEC...

You may disagree with my statement, but if you were to buy a used S2000, I'd be willing to bet you'd take mine over some of those in the Street Encounters forum.
The person asked about buying a new or used S. I was just letting hime know that some owners don't take theirs to the extreme "any time you have the oppurtunity".

I think my driving style may reflect my lifestyle in a way, I like to push things to the extreme, no holds barred, all out, nothing to lose, some would like to be conservative and cautious, to each his own (BTW, abura, dont buy a car from me if you are looking because although I take care of it inside and out, I do push it to the maximum capacity regularly)

Dario, I couldn't agree with you more, buying a used S2000 is dangerous, especially if you buy it from a guy like me, so to be safe, I would try to by new, or at least know the person you are buying it form or get ti certified.

I'm not saying all the people on this forum beat their S's. Like I said, I got mine new, broke it in properly, and treat it well. My point is that some people beat their cars and this can be seen by reading some of the posts in Street Encounters.

I agree, this car was designed to be driven hard at times. I'm not sure if it should be driven like that ALL the time, but it was made to perform...
