New User, Buying s2000 in Toronto
Hi all, I am a new user to the forms. Actually, to be honest, I have been reading the forums religiously for the last year or so. I have been in love with the s2000 ever since the SSM concept.
I have finally finished B-School, and within the next six months to a year plan to purchase an s2000 in Toronto, Ontario. A little gift to myself I suppose
I plan on using it as a daily driver (with winter tires in the winter) for the next 10 or so years (yes, this sounds long, but I keep my vehicles in immaculate condition - and when I say I want to keep this car forever, I truly mean it). I also plan to keep this garage for the rest of my life. A little souvenier of the first sports car I purchased. I can just imagine in 20 or 30 years taking this thing out for a spin on the weekend. Amazing!!
My question is, for the guys in Toronto - what was your purchase price like? I think buy may be a strong word, as I actually plan to finance it. What were your finance rates like if you went that route? Since Toronto is a little bigger city, I was also wondering what you guys thought of purchasing it in a smaller town? I know someone who claims he purchased a black/red s2000 in Sudbury for $50,000 cash out the door. Not a bad deal if you ask me!!
I am convinced this is the perfect car for me. Since 1998 I have been driving a GMC Envoy, and a short stint with a yukon before that. Might I compare it to driving a boat?
I am excited for this car... and more excited waiting for your answers to the above!
Thanks everyone!
Nick

When "nobody" answers, you can always count on me to give my nickels worth. Give it time. You caught everyone on a weekend. They're back to work now and once they get the initial Monday crap out of the way, I'm sure they'll reply.
Have you tried to check out possible deals just into Quebec? Their economy is always in the sewer and if a dealer has a car, they'll be more inclined to get the thing out the door.
50 grand out the door (tax, PDI, freight included) is a heck of a deal. If you find this, don't look further. Put money down before they change their minds. Also keep in mind that the time to buy "extras" like wheel locks, spoilers, hardtops, etc. is when you pen the deal. They are more likely to "throw" some things in or let you have them at cost or near cost if the deal hinges on it. Don't buy anything you don't want like paint protection, Scotchgarding, etc unless you really want them. These things are gimmicks that are designed to up the dealer profit margins. Paint protection cost them about 3 dollars in material. Scotchgard lasts for about 3-6 months. Under body rust proofing is not needed unless it makes you sleep better at night knowing you have it. Cars these days, including the S2000 are rust protected very well right from the factory.

That's the trouble with, "I know someone who claims ................ ". There is always something left out of the story like maybe he didn't tell you about the thousand dollar documentation fee or the ...??? which he doesn't consider as being actually a part of the sale price of the car.
True... I am not sure whether or not he actually picked it up for $50,000 out the door, as I heard this second hand. However - he did buy in Sudbury and if the economy isn't in the dump there, I don't know where it actually is
Hehe.
Your replies are much appreciated, especially the approximates on dealer cost...
As for the rustproofing, since I wil be driving it all year around - I was thinking of getting the "krown" protecton. I got this on my envoy and it seemed to work well. The only thing is that I will not allow them to drill holes in the car. I think this should maybe repel some of the salt in the winter.
I will visit the Toronto forum also... didn't know it existed (sorry, newbie mistake I suppose!).
Thanks again!!
