New York Stooks Help
Hello:
The only thing standing between me and the car now is a test drive. My wife says that I can get the car after I test drive it. The problem is that the local dealer does not allow test drives until a deposit has been placed. My concerns about the car are mainly the noise and the ride. I do not know if they are too rough for me. Any NY area Stook owners willing to take me for a spin? I am in White Plains, (Westchester county). If anyone knows a NY dealer that allows a test drive please leave me a message.

Thanks. I will take your offer. I imagine all I need is a couple of minutes in the car as a passenger to qualify. My sister lives in Manhasset. I head out to Long Island couple of times a month. I will send you a messsage.

There are very few S2K owners who had a pre-purchase test drive. The road test reports from the motoring press (I read loads) were enough to convince me.It is really comfortable compared with any other proper sports car.Go and buy it,enjoy it and then wonder why on earth you did'nt do it before.

Mavic,
I live in Poughkeepsie, but my car is not going on any highways till the sand and salt are gone. I will take it out on local roads when it is dry just to get it going.
I don't think that Friendly Honda (Poughkeepsie) will let you test drive, but if you decide to buy one, you may want to give Ron Alexander a call to see what the wait is. In the past they have sold at MSRP. This dealer also has a great local reputation.
If you do call tell Ron that Jim with the Silver S2000 told you. I don't get any kickbacks but Ron is a good guy (I have purchased 4 Hondas from him (5th later this yr).
Good Luck,
Jim

Hey this is the greatest forum. I get the car just to hang out with you guys. I will try to get a ride with Y2K1S2K. The truth is I will lie to my wife about the test drive if I have to. It is reasonable on her part to ask me to sit in a moving S2000 before I make the purchase. Hopefully I will get the car by end of Feb. BTW, ReedZ, I know the road on your picture. I can only imagine driving on that road one day in my S2000.
I would like to thank all the S2000 drivers who responded above. I was able to get a ride in the S2000 from one of them. Below is my impression of the ride.
From the outside, the car is quiet at idle. Entry is easy even with the top up. Once inside, the seats are snug. I am 6' tall. The car did not feel claustrophobic to me. It's actually kind of cozy. It was cold here in NY, but the car just feel like any well heated car. The shocker came when the engine is revved. I could not believe that Honda would make a car this loud. It sounded like a car with a bad muffler.
We were close to I87. As soon as we got on the highway, the car was quick to reach 80mph. What was obvious to me was the lack of drama from the on ramp to the 80mph. The car did not "feel" fast. I did not get the "heart jumping out of the chest" sensation. Without the speedometer ( and the noise ) I would not have known how fast we were traveling. Regarding the noise, it's loud mostly when accelerating or when the tach is above ~6000RPM. The rest of the time it's still loud, but not intrusive. We were able to have a normal conversation (about the car of course). Road /wind noise was minimal. My host did not play the radio much. But from the brief moment that he had it on, I thought it was not bad.
The car is low, but without other cars as reference, I was not able to tell due to the upright sitting position. The ride is absolutely comfortable. Soon after we started we were in NYC. We were going over the regular NYC roads. The ride is not harsh at all. It's not "jarring". It's more comfortable than my 92 Accord. In addition the way it turns flat makes the ride that much more pleasant. My host did a quick U-turn before we head over to Queens. The tail slide out a bit at his command, again without drama. Sort of like dancing.
The final test was when my wife went for a ride in the parking lot. She thought the noise is not that bad. She also thinks it's comfortable inside.
My host is a regular at this forum. He is an excellent driver. Very well informed, and generous with his knowledge and his time. Maybe that says something about this car that we all love.
I will be picking up my S2000 this Sat. Thanks to all those who replied, and hopefully I will get to help someone in a similar situation in the future.
